This is at a police station in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Has been there in the same state for more than half a decade now.

It's sad to see such a beautiful car rotting away. I ran the plates through the Parivahan website, and the car has been blacklisted for some reason. Does anyone know the story behind it? Would be interesting to know how and why it ended up in this sorry state.

Is it a Jag next to the Audi? Is it also rotting away or is it just parked there?

It's been alongside the R8 since forever. It is a Jag XF.

Came across a 8 series ( 8.40i) in black, in pitiable condition, it was one of the few around in Mumbai. Now rotting at a workshop here. Will try and post an image

From what I've been told, it might be just resurrected to it's former glory. I hope that goes as per plan. Will be an absolute treat to see it out and about after almost a decade, I'm guessing.

Re: Pics: Imports gathering dust in India

Thanks to Swapnil for sharing more pics!

Today's German cars with their complex electronics simply won't have the long life enjoyed by their predecessors such as the W124, W126 & gang. I'd give the current breed of European cars a max life of 5 - 10 years with the original owner, and another 3 - 4 years with their 2nd / 3rd / 4th owners who will eventually give up.

For the initial couple of years, the car will be meticulously maintained at the authorised dealer, followed by a good independent. But once the car is over 7 - 8 years old and it moves onto the hands of the 2nd / 3rd owner, cheap maintenance will take over, starting off its slow death.

These retired queens are from Magathane:

Re: Pics: Imports gathering dust in India

That Mercedes has the worst electronics and the sensotronic brakes are an electronic failure. The later versions had upto 3000 revisions and were a much better cars. You still see them on the road performing well. This one looks like it lost its engine.

As for the Audi, I dont recollect 2,7Tdi versions even having air suspension. Judging by the bumpers and creased rear wing, it seems to have suffered a terrible jump.

Not really an imported one, but from a lineage which can be traced overseas. Saw this in the bylane of Malleshwaram, Bengaluru.

Oh man, what memories! That is India's 1st FAST turbo-diesel car.

Posted pics of an old Landcruiser on another thread. Surely gathering dust (but not rotting) - link (Monster Toyota Landcruiser FJ62).

Am I correctly identifying that as a Rover Montego?

Re: Pics: Imports gathering dust in India

What you see is what's left of a Porsche 944 that apparently belonged to some royal and was impounded by the bank after his passing.

Recently the car was offered for sale, but when I dug around a bit, the guy admitted he didn't have any paperwork to go with it and he picked it up as scrap. So that's a goner. Sigh!

I remember seeing this on OLX, I guess we spoke about this one. Its a real shame this car's fate is sealed. Would have been nice if someone took the pain to resurrect this.
