Re: I just got Har-Ley'd! My Iron 883

Congratulations on the bike Vista! I personally like the Sportster line-up of the HDs. And I must say the colors on the 883 look really good as well, be it the matte black, the amber whiskey or specially the new Camo color (don't know the exact name) I saw the other day. That color looks absolutely delicious in flesh.

Wish you millions of speed-breaker free miles ahead.

Wow, Shubz!
You sure are doing full justice to the bike!!

Since you are very active in the HOG rides, wanted to know if other bikers are free to join/ride along? Asking since there were some BMWs etc at the Nothern HOG Rally in Pushkar and they had come from a long way off!

Sir,

actually not. They do not encourage other brands of bike to start off with the crowd. but friends of HOGs always join in on other bikes. I have been on rides and have had my friends with other bikes join in, from a different starting point.

Cheers!

Congrats Shubz.

Roughly 11 months to reach this? Many happy rides.

Mine reads exactly a mirrored image of yours right now -000210. Still a long way ahead to ride.

By the way, what has been your most remembered/Favourite ride during this period, and if possible, Why?

Ram sir,

It won't be too long before you come close to my ODO or even beat me at that. You've got a beautiful machine and all I'd say is ride the hell outta it (safely of course)

Every ride is memorable for me as I ride with an amazing bunch of riders, like minded folks, fun loving - we are lovingly called LLB. and very well known in the HOG circle

The best one's have been

1) IBW - Goa in Jan 2014 (my first long ride on the Harley)

2) A ride to Krishnagiri dam - in Lashing/Blinding rain! (this was last month)

Haroon sir! So true! Each mile/milestone has brought immense joy on this machine. Including when there had been niggles. Totally worth taking the plunge on this, after the never ending wait for the Street Triple!

60 is too low for a 900 cc engine. You can take it upto 80-90 quite safely. Just don't exceed 100 kmph for the initial 1.5~2k kms.

Re: I just got Har-Ley'd! My Iron 883

There was a discussion about the time of service earlier in the thread as well. I've ridden around 450 Kms before leaving Delhi and by the time I get back it'll be a month. So should I ride it a bit more before the first service or just give it. What should be an ideal km number, as per them it's 1600 km or 1 month- whichever comes first. All I can do is a couple of hundreds more during my stay there.

I would suggest you do the 1st service as per their time schedule. Try to bring it as close to the 1k mark as possible but get it serviced anyways. 1st oil change is critical.

I wonder how you are managing to hold it at 60. On what gear? Please note that if you are riding that speed on higher gears, please be prepared to shell out a fortune to replace the clutch!

80-100 kmph - without high acceleration or sudden braking should break engine in properly.

This was on my last week's ride to my native place. I too found it very difficult to hold it at around 60 Kmph. But somehow managed since it was about 75 kms one way. I think it was mostly in 4th gear and Mysore road is not the place for riding cruisers- my opinion - since there are humps in every nook and corner rather every km or so.

On the contrary, in yesterday's ride, I went up till 80 Kmph which was far more comfortable and less tiring though.

I had read that we can keep speeds between 50-55Mph (same as your quote) but more importantly the RPM should be less than 3500. for the initial 1000miles or 1600 kms.

Re: I just got Har-Ley'd! My Iron 883

Browsing a few online forums, I saw that the 2014 Iron came with better brakes, optional ABS, tachometer, gear indicator, closed loop efi and a new electrical harness. Hence the price increase over 2013 models. Is it the same in India?
