You should be tempted. I have driven these roads on bike throughout my engineering days. Used to be my default weekend away. You are going to really enjoy the drive.

Where: Blr - NH 209 - descend 27 U-bend Dimbum to Sathy -Mettupalayam-Karamadi - ascend 43 U-bend Manjur – Lovedale - Ooty *(overnight)- descend 36 U-bend Sijur –Masinagudi- Mysore and back via SH17

My suggestion is either Sherlock or Taj Savoy. I have stayed in Sherlock a couple of times, and the place is great. However, I am not too sure about the approach road. The approach road conditions keep changing over time (I have once seen a terrible approach road and another time a good approach road).

Guys have a great time might be next trip will join.

As someone already mentioned, driving from Mysore to Bangalore Sunday evening is always a nightmare. Can we change this plan to reach Bangalore around 5:00 PM?

Unless this is first time anybody is visiting Ooty (I doubt this; looks like most of us have already visited it a couple of times) then there is really not much to "DIY Ooty" before lunch. In that case, can we start back after breakfast (say 9:00 AM), and reach Bangalore by 5:00 PM or so?

Just a suggestion. Whatever works best for all is fine :-)

Being a Sunday, a late rouse is to be expected given the 'high' after a challenging drive, the elevation and with spirits to match
... doable post an early lunch eta Blr 7 pm with the pit stops.

I need to head to Chennai on the 7th, so I'll not be able to stay over on 6th. Didn't want to miss this one, so I'll join you guys for the meet. Will drive down with you guys till Chamarajanagar (185 km), pack lunch/breakfast at Nijaguna Residency depending on what time we reach, and head back to Bangalore after lunch. Am I mad? No! I just 'Live to Drive' .

P.S - I might even come all the way to Savoy and return the same day if I get a brainwave on Saturday. Only time will tell.

Being from Mysore, I have been doing the weekend Mys-Blr trip at-least twice a month for almost 5 years now
And the Sunday evening drive back on SH 17 has reached an absolute low point since the past couple of months, with especially the town crossings - Mandya, Ramanagara; taking upto 45 minutes each !! And post 6:30 pm you are most likely to start running into almost city-like traffic, moving at crawling pace even as far back as Bidadi (~15 km before the NICE road entrance)

So, I think its a good idea to leave earlier and avoid this or even avoid SH17 all together on the way back.
