I just replaced all the 3 STAR/CROSS joints in my scorpio which is 5.5 yrs old and 67 k on odo. i bought all the spares in a reputed shop and did the hydraulic pressing/fitting outside.costed me 2.5k and the same is done in A.S.S. @ 9k i understand.

What they meant is the Universal Joint cross on the prop shaft. The clanging noise is a result of the cross/cross bearings being worn out. 20k kms seems too little for it though unless the vehicle has seen some hard driving. Get it opened and checked. Re greasing could at times resolve the issue as well.

Thanks devdath and others. I also showed it to mechanic outside and he told for now greasing would do. It has solved the problem. I will see when the problem occurs again.

I have another question. Has any non-crde Scorpio owner ever used fuel additives like system-d along with normal diesel. Mahindra strongly recommends not to use any kind of fuel additives. Anyone seen a better performance with system-d.

Hi again folks, where is the spare fuse box in scorpio located. The other cars that I own have spare ECU, horn, radiator fan etc fuses in case the one doing duty blows out. One would be stranded on the road if such a thing happens during highway drive.

The fuse box is in the engine bay on the left side and the spare fuses are in the box only.

Hi MC, Those are the main fuses.
There is another set of fuses located in the cabin under the dashboard to the left of the steering wheel. All the horn/light etc fuses (minor components) are located there.

This is a common issue in Scorpio, i too have it my new Scorp. Nothing to worry. Release your clutch slowly so this sound will not be so much.

I have the company fitted central locking system in the Getaway fitted with model no. NCS-090 Two Channel Security System. The dashboard does a lock sign and the system is supposed to be fitted with an immobiliser and a RFID chip in the key. But I have never seen the lock sign glow on the dashboard.

I have a feeling that my system is not armed. What should I do?

You can check if it is armed easily - just lock it with remote and open the door with your ignition key. If armed, siren should sound. No doubt, if armed, lock sign should blink.

Check with the service center. They can arrange for Nippon technician if there is any problem with the security system. My experience with Nippon guys is good. Usually they come to your place and do the job. Just today I got one of my remotes replaced for Rs.560 (though it is under warranty, free service is to send faulty remote to Chennai and they probably repair it and you get it back in around 15 days - I prefered to pay and get new one on the spot).

I haven't read through the past pages again, but I remember this being discussed a long time back. My Scorp is a 2008 mHawk Vlx and suffers from a notchy gearbox and excessive vibrations in the third gear.

If I am not mistaken, had M&M not replaced some part in the clutch assy to address this issue? I recently drove a 2010 mHawk and found the gearbox slotting much better than in my Scorp.

Any help in this regard would be highly appreciated.

Clutch slave cylinders and release bearings were replaced in a few batches of the initial MHawks. You could check it with your dealer.

I ran into a similar problem on my 2009 Mhawk, but with the 1st gear usually while downshifting. Check my ownership thread from post #150, click here .Have added the reason and the list of parts that were replaced.

I also have a 2008 (Sep) MHawk, the same problem was there, iinitially the Clutch slave cylinder was replaced, but I was told that gear lever shudder is generic to the vehicle in 3rd gear.

The gears are still hard but now I feel that thats a tradeoff for buying a cheaper hulk of a vehicle, it is just a question of getting used to it. (Fortuner gears are butter smooth, though for the price you still get not so rich interiors and a hard suspension )

Anirudha, as far as I know these are two separate systems.
The Nippon is a remote central locking and starter immobilizer system.
The RFID chip in the key is a separate system, linked to the ECU which has the same code as the chip in the key fob.

The 'car&lock icon' in the cluster should light up when you turn on the ignition. Once the engine fires this light will go off. This system does not need to be armed; it is always armed by default and cannot be dis-armed.

With a non-OEM duplicate key the icon will light up but keep blinking when you turn on the ignition; and, of course, the engine can be cranked but will not fire.

I have described this behaviour from what I see in my WagonR; my Scorpio is without this RFID protection (2006 model).

Thanks, I will be getting in touch with the ASC soon. As our Scorp changes location every few years, finding a good ASC has been a pain. Lets hope I can find a good ASC in Ahmedabad.

I was wondering if there was a recall of sorts for our vehicles. Good to know things have improved since the parts have been replaced.

This is interesting, because when I drove the 2010 Scorpio, I could swear that there was a drastic difference in the shift quality. The gears were slotting well and there was no rubbery feeling usually associated with gear shifting in the Scorpio.

Just drove a friends 2010 Mhawk and couldn't make out much of a difference. I felt the gear slotting was almost the same.

Spikey where art thou ? Any difference with the gear boxes in the 2009 and 2010 Mhawk models ?
