Just recently changed from stock exide to Amaron. Highly recommended by lot of people.

Exide did serve me well for a little over 4 years / 30k KMS.

Bosch can be an alternate option too.

People... listen up. The guy is asking for advice on inverter batteries, and not car batteries. That's a whole different league altogether. Inverter batteries are meant for slow, long discharge as opposed to a car battery which is meant to deliver high current for a short time. The charging current rating for a car battery is also different from an inverter battery.

I also have an inverter (now defunct) in my house, and had a local-made lead acid battery for it, which served us for 2 years and then died. Costed about 2k, got back Rs. 200 for the dead battery.

Thanks amu1983, the thread was wandering away a bit.

For inverters, tubular batteries are the ones to look out for. These batteries are designed for deep discharge cycles. Normal automotive batteries are not made to discharge substantially, the alternator always keeps the car battery fully charged. Tubular batteries can withstand constant charging and discharging again and again over their entire life, whereas a normal car battery would be ruined shortly if it were deep cycled like this.

Automotive (thin plate) batteries are mainly designed to generate high current over a short period, whereas tubular (thick tube like construction) batteries can provide comparitively less current over long periods.

Not many brands are available for inverters, Amaron, Amco, Panasonic, do not have Tubular batteries. Amaron have some gel filled batteries (not tubular), but in very small capacities.

I have used Exide InvaRed Tubular 150Ah battery, costs @ 7.5k, it has got 2 years warranty. It has been 8 months now, no problems till now, and i have 15 such batteries, no problems with any one of them (touch wood).

Exide also has EL Series tubular batteries with 5 years warranty for 150Ah battery, costs @11k.

I previously used locally made ones, they lasted for 4 years, but had some problems with some of the batteries going dead, had to get some of them replaced, they did come a bit cheap though @ 5k 4 years back.

Am getting a Bosch Silver battery for 2750/- with a 2-yr warranty for my Lancer. Is this is a good deal?
I've read good things about the battery on T-Bhp...

hi Razor4077 , Bosch silver for 2750 with 2 yrs warranty sounds too good to be true ! Go for it ! Amaron and Exide costs 4k +.

Yup... it was a good deal. I bought it today. 2750 with a 2 year fully replaceable guarantee. Which means they will replace the battery with a new one instantly even in the 23rd month if the potentiometer says the battery is not working.
Am pretty hapy about it.

Amaron and only amaron. I dont think it costa more than 3000 rs. It comes with 3 year warranty. Our amaron served us 6 years in our diesel amby.

Yes, I have only good things to say about this battery.

However be advised that Bosch themselves do not manufacture and the Bosch silver battery is made, using bosch spcifications, drawings etc. By Amara Raja Batteries (Amaron)
I'm not saying it's the same battery. I'm saying that Amaron makes it for Bosch, the way they want it to be made.

And yes, Bosch silver battery for the lancer cost be some 2700/- or so. Excellent battery.

Amaraon gives total peace of mind.. The Exide that came with Getz says maintenance free. Is it totally maintenance free?

For inverter use try the Exide Plante range of batteries, these batteries are the ones installed in Railways and heavy industrial use.

These come in 2v or 4v (2v is preferable but will increase the # of batteries needed) but are ultra low-discharge, bulletproof reliability, indestructible, and last forever.

Usually we get 2v per cell, here it is 2v per a whole deep-cycle battery. This means very low wear and tear over and above the construction of the battery.

I would believe all UPS including APC uses Exide batteries. Amaron is also another brand which is good I heard.

Sam bhai, u sure about that? According to another Team-Bhpian, Bosch is manufactured by Exide. Since this gentleman works for Exide, I imagine he has a good idea about this

Its possible that both of them do. If Bosch needs certain no. of units contract manufactured it may very well decide to split the order into two or more parts. Many big brands get things contract manufactured from multiple vendors. This may have to do with,
* huge volumes that one vendor may not be able to meet.
* not willing to put all the eggs in the same basket, for the sake of business continuity.
* for cheaper distribution costs across the length and breadth of a country.
