These Decathlon sales guys don't know how to fit. They said it cannot be fitted on Nexon as this Bicycle carrier is for Sedan. As you can see someone above has fitted on Nexon flawlessly.

Re: Questions About Roof Racks / Carriers / Bicycle Carriers

I have a different query here.

My car (Honda Brio) does not even come with roof rails.
So I need to drill that on first before thinking of a roof box etc

Query is : will this cause any rust?
Are anodized aluminium panels available for roof rust?

Looking for other diy solutions as I carry massive luggage on my trips

Honda CRV 3rd Generation

I am looking to install a roof rack for my Honda CRV (2008-3rd Generation).

At the moment it is bare top without even the rails. I checked at a Honda dealer in Bengaluru (Whitefield Honda) and the SA told me that it's not available with them.

Does anyone know where I can source the OEM roof rails? I checked on Boodmo and they do not seem to have this particular part either.

Please advice.

If there is anyone in this thread that has a Honda CRV and had roof racks installed, please share some photos of your rig.

The only other alternative that seems like a possible solution is to get one custom fabricated as Touringlawyer did for his Renault Duster.

Thanks for sharing your rig Touringlawyer, Classic Service Point seems to do top quality work with modifications and custom builds.

Re: Questions About Roof Racks / Carriers / Bicycle Carriers

Guys in Bangalore

Are the bike racks at the back still being caught as a traffic offence? This is insane.

I need one soon.

Wonder what is so special about the Compass in this respect.
Hows it going with the rack so far? Would you have any pictures to share? In the market for one. Decathlon stuff seems to be the VFM option.

It is still the same as what I posted (Questions About Roof Racks / Carriers / Bicycle Carriers) then and it's still in the same place. Its put to use twice a week at least and does the job reliably.

Can this be fixed permanently to the car? Can those protrusions be folded? And will a rear wiper interfere in the install? How quick is install and removal?

<300 seconds each operation

When I had bought it many years ago, the local Decathlon Cycling team chap (in fact Sandeep Madaan) was more than happy to put it up on my car to first try and then buy. Maybe you will find someone equally helpful.

Okay. So 300 seconds is good. That means you can have this installed only when you need it. Which is absolutely fine. I will go have this tried out once locally. thanks again man.

Any clue how much the cheapest option costs? I will also look them up online.

When I got the Thule wing bars and the cycle rack for the Jetta about 5 years back, it cost about 37K. Should be about 50K now.

Check out Methods Automotive. They are the official dealers for Thule.

Thule Roof Rails (Crossbars)

I got in touch with Methods Automotives for crossbars to install the roof rack, this was what I was quoted:

Footpack753 + Wingbar Evo 7112 + Kit 3042 - Rs.31490

For their utility, engineering R&D/manufacturing and shipping costs, it seems unreasonably expensive for a very minimally engineered product (perhaps because they are direct imports from Sweden?)

When I add the roof rack to it:

Thule Canyon XT - Rs. 39000

Total cost for Crossbar Kit + Roof Rails: Rs. 70490

A bit too steep.

In regards to bike carriers, I don't know how many options are available out there, but when it comes to prepping my Honda CRV for fixing a roof rack, just does not seem worth it.

Going through this thread, it seems way more wiser to invest in a custom build from Classic Service Point in Noida, only trouble being, they are a bit far away from where I am based.

However, for the price they charge, the work they produce seems to be of top quality.

For the bike, I have the Thule Pro-ride. When I had bought this it cost around 12K. Not sure what the price is now (Methods automotive site seems to be down for Thule products). This will be in addition to the 31.49K for the wingbar and foot kit.

When it comes to general roofracks or boxes, Thule is very expensive. If you are looking for storage, check out Pentair roof boxes. They are quite good in quality but cost 1/3 that of Thule.

Re: Questions About Roof Racks / Carriers / Bicycle Carriers

Is there some consensus--pan India--in regards to where we stand as motorists in regards to installation and use of Roof Racks/Cycle Mounts-Carriers?

From the information I have gleaned through this thread and from the experiences of other forum members, only in certain states there is clarity on it: GJ, DL-NCR, UK.

My friend from Bengaluru--who is a avid motorhead owns and operates a garage for car modifications (i.e. installation of Auto Clutch for stick shift cars) says empathically NO for KA.

As it has already been mentioned before, GJ seems to be lenient, as it was reported in this news report in 2018:

Can anyone with some more information in regards to this issue please share your insights?

Fully agree. Thule is amazing quality but at least double the 'expected' cost. I have just bought a set of FARAD roof bars & link kit for my BMW 330i Sport. The fit and finish may not be upto the Thule standard but so is the outlay at around 50% :-).

FARAD India site link:
https://www.faradworld.com/en

What I bought:
Feet
https://www.faradworld.com/en/3821-k...alu--iron.html
Bars
https://www.driveden.com/product/far...d-point-r-6653
Box (yet to buy)
https://www.faradworld.com/en/3504-b...allizzato.html

As graaja puts it, the Pentair boxes are great too BUT do not come with their own bars. Hence, i went for FARAD. See the discussion from here onwards:
