Re: Land Rover Discovery 4: A near death experience, continuous problems & poor service

Disgusting would be an understatement to the behavior of JLR management in India. The extent which they have gone to, to cover up faults made by their workshop is something I did not expect even from these guys. They seem to have resorted to all kinds of unethical tactics, which the Tata Group is not known for. It is high time JLR India realize that customers cannot be treated in this manner.

I find it ironical, that they first blamed Mad Monkeys issues on the accessories he had installed saying they were non approved, and now we find a non genuine fuse installed by JLR technicians themselves and that too for something critical like airbags. It shows they have no intention to actually fix any issues, but just to take any shortcut possible to make the vehicle seem as though it is running.

This reminds me more and more of what Skoda did to harish. I would ask all Team BHPians to share and forward this thread as much as possible, so that we may do to JLR what we did to Skoda. Stop as many of your friends, colleagues and acquaintances from buying JLR cars until JLR learns how to treat a customer.

Have been following your issues for sometime now Mad Monkey and truly hats off to your patience. JLR has already lost a sale because of the pains they have given you. A friend of mine was crazy about Evoque and was going to book it, made him go through your thread. Result: Evoque out, Q7 in.

Am sure they will lose at least 20-25 sales because of all the trouble you have been through.

Oh My God!! Terrible and horrible. JLR HAS JUST LOST ANOTHER SALE.

My friend was crazy about Evoque and he was asking me to accompany him to the JLR showroom from the past couple of weeks. Just forwarded this thread to him.

Result: Evoque out, BMW X3 in

Re: Land Rover Discovery 4: A near death experience, continuous problems & poor service

I read your post and almost had a deja vu again.

My dear friend i had a similar experience last year on a LR in Jaffna. This was a relative's car and i drove it alone.Oneday at dawn i wanted to fetch my son from airport and thought wise to drive and pick him up. So i drove spritfully and after about 45 min , my car shuddred a few times and suddenly the dashboard warning lights blinked and blanked out, the steering first became soft and then got locked. The brakes also went sloshy, and i was jolted as it started to rain.

It was sheer luck that it started skidding and went rightwards on a gravel road and hit a hayheap and stopped with the airbag busting open after a good 3 min.I was quick enough to escape with the few bruises as the airbag exploded almost secs after i got out.Else i would have had a good injury due to airbag. I was stranded for hours, since they had no CSR numbers in srilanka. The plantation and the patrolling paramilitary guys managed to call in some towing service and i could fortunately reach my realtive and son.It was a shattering and very bitter experience for me , one i will remember till i live.

The most intresting aspect was the dealer team there just fixed the airbag with replacement of senors and some denting works. no reasons were attributed whatsover.I again drove the vehicle after about 3 months there on another visit and one evening the same thing happened ( deja vu), nonresponsive steering and dashboard going blank in mid of highway.I was on my hairs end, and all i did at the spur of moment was apply brakes which fortunately worked this time. The vehicle stopped like a sitting duck in mid of road.I panicked and restarted, and it just started and i drove it.Confusing but glad that it did run.

Till i was there at my relative's place, the vehicle was there at the dealers end about 2 months waiting for ECU's and some troubleshooting to come in.
In Jan my relative mentioned he returned the vehicle after some peaceful (?) agreement with the vehicle dealer and took another vehicle.

One sentence to say based on my personal experience "British Unreliability At Its Best Merged with Tata's Arrogant Attitude"

Stay away from it, if you value your life.

Any vehicle could fail, but the company needs to have the right mindset to investigate and resolve it so that it does not put the customer at risk.

Anyway in europe LR as a brand is miles down on the safety and dependability score, even germans fare better.

Re: Land Rover Discovery 4: A near death experience, continuous problems & poor service

Read the complete thread in one go, and am thanking my stars that I don't have 1.5 Crores to buy this machine. Hats off to you sir for your patience. Experiences like this makes me believe in companies like Maruti & Hyundai. No matter how good or bad their machines are, they stand by your side and at the end that is what matters.

Here is hoping for a quick resolution to your misery and here is also hoping that may you have the strength and resources to pull these morons out of their Air-Conditioned offices, on their knees.

Re: Land Rover Discovery 4: A near death experience, continuous problems & poor service

Hey MM, it is truly disheartening to read about your experience with a brand that is supposed to evoke rock solid assurance and safety!

I was looking at a pre-owned Freelander as my next car and after reading your thread I am convinced against buying one. Back to the drawing table with the trustworthy Fortuner v/s Pajero.

I assume you would have tried connecting with Tata M/JLR people at the highest possible level possible without much respite. As many fellow bhpians within this group would have already done, I have also taken the liberty of forwarding this thread to my friend in Tata M, hope they take notice and take some concrete steps in resolving the same.

Safe motoring!

Re: Land Rover Discovery 4: A near death experience, continuous problems & poor service

A similar experience reported on Team-BHP's FB page by Gaurav Chhabra:

Quote:
My RANGE ROVER SPORT STEERING FAILED. THIS WAS LIFE THREATENING TO THE OCCUPANTS IN THE CAR AND PEOPLE ON THE ROAD ( it's not a first incident with Range Rover they have a world wide history of steering failures, they have even recalled vehicles with a warning "Steering May Fail" but in India they don't give a damn). After the steering failure it brushed against a Hyundai I10 parked on the road side. Now Jaguar / Tata Motors has been harassing me saying the steering failed as it brushed against this Hyundai. Taking them to court now, but they bluntly say it's India nothing will happen..

It's this attitude of JLR India which is going to be bad for them down the line. Yes they may have reduced the price on the Evoque, and they may have an XE and a new XF coming in. But enough of those people are going to read experiences like these and re think their decisions.

Re: Land Rover Discovery 4: A near death experience, continuous problems & poor service

This is an image I received from a friend, who saw this Discovery at a tyre shop about 200 meters from the JLR Workshop in Vikhroli. Apparently there were JLR workshop personnel in the car, and he even saw the seat cover put on by the workshop.

It seems the workshop is getting alignment and balancing done outside, which I find very weird. On speaking to someone else I was told the workshops alignment equipment has not been operational for a few days.

This company owned workshop just seems to be doing weird things. Frankly I wouldn't trust a small tyre shop with the 19" wheels and massive tyres on a Discovery. God only knows if the outside tyre shops even have the right alignment figures to put in to their machine.

Re: Land Rover Discovery 4: A near death experience, continuous problems & poor service

MadMonkey,

I appreciate your noble concern that it is wrong to sell this lemon off to some unsuspecting buyer. Very Gentleman'ly of you!

Also, this situation is as good as a failed marriage. Cannot see eye to eye, cold pasta on the table, one in AC bedroom - other on a small couch.

Only way to end this stale mate is someone has to go to the Court of Law. Of course TATA/JLR is least bothered about giving back 1.5Cr Rs lying in their coffers, which leaves you to file (Yet another Tbhp) case against a fradulent car maker in India.

I think you already are on the works for ^, also you may have realized nothing miraculous is going to happen before a long 2-3 or even 4 years. Sadly thats the way how our system works. But all said - you have a very very strong case...

Reminds me of a very famous thread of 'varunroy' in Tbhp http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...o-pg-40-a.html

The ^ thread should give some much needed confidence and may be a 'brownie point' to your legal team if needed.

All the best!!

My friend is currently facing issues with his XF-S (D) as well. Believe he might be going the legal way. Haven't seen his car in over a year!

Unlike Harish's skoda case, given the price points these cars are sold at, JLR is actually picking a fight with some very influential and respected people, and just within their networks JLR is losing hundreds of potential customers.

Such creative solution, got to hand it to them for their ingenuity. Charge about what 1.5-2k for the job of balancing & alignment in their authorised workshop, get it done for under half the cost outside and all it takes is a driver. Costs are saved on upkeep/purchase of new machinery as well. This working model might actually work, next they can arrange for mini mechanic shops & people with rags who can clean the car, kind of like ancillary units who can either come in as specialist consulting personnel or be prepared to tackle the jobs at their own setup. To further save on costs they can also use a hand pump to fill air in tyres.

JLR can also save on rent, just keep a posh lobby and 2 men clothed as service advisors just to grab the keys and talk about some popular terms like brake-pad cleaning, engine oil change, tune-up's, replacements etc and get a signature from the customer with an unconditional approval for all of the above. They can also keep tinkering shops nearby to ding out the dents caused by "careless" brake handling of the owners.

Just to play devil's advocate here ... are there Any JLR owners on this thread that have had a normal/positive ownership experience with their LR vehicle? Folks that haven't had any unfortunate scenarios like MM?
