Firstly, thanks wildon for your efforts in helping out fellow bhpians.

Going by the logic given in the earlier post, shouldn't FPZ mean a manufacturing date of May 2009? Look below:

Apr-09 EPZ
May-09 FPZ
Jun-09 GPZ
Jul-09 HPZ
Aug-09 IPZ
Sep-09 JPZ
Oct-09 KPZ
Nov-09 LPZ
Dec-09 MPZ

I ask because I also have a Punto with the chassis number ending in FPZ. Am I missing something?

Did I make a mistake?

Hi Guys,

I did PDI of my Maruti Ritz a day back and found the chassis number ending with K9. That time I didn't knew that the letter 'i' is not used and thought that K means the car is manufactured in November. Now the car has already gone for registration, I don't think I can do much about it.

Did I make a mistake? Is 1 month old car OK?

Yes you have missed something.
Linea production started from January 2009 and it started with AQZ, letter i (I) not used to avoid confusion with 1.

AQZ = Jan
BQZ = Feb
CQZ = March
DPZ = April
EPZ = May
FPZ = June
GPZ = July
HPZ = August
JPZ = September
KPZ = October

K9 in Maruti means October 2009. only mistake you have done is taken consideration of ' i ' . 1 month old car is considered as VERY GOOD and most of the buyers used to get it in this fashion only. So don't break your head thinking too much on that.

Thanks a lot Wildon for your quick reply. The second one is also an i10. I had an option to choose one from the dealer. Hence the query.

During my interaction with Honda dealers, they told me that, now a days, Honda doesn't mark the month of manufacture of their vehicles on the car. Is this true ? if so, how can one make sure that the vehicle is not one from the beginning of the year ? Basically, what I am coming to is, whether it is possible to infer the month of manufacture from a Honda VIN ?

This problem exists in all i10's manufactured between 21-09-2008 and 03-02-2009.
But.. do check your vehicle with the dealer if you have any problems with it.
