There is no problem with Vista being used as a Taxi. In fact, the Indica was hot on my list of shortlisted cars. I posted only because, as humans pointed out, Tatas have made it clear that they will not sell the vista as a taxi.

Looks like that there is a slip somewhere.

When any car is sold as a taxi there is substantial reduction in price, presumably due to lower taxes. I think Vista is not sold like that. But that doesn't prevent one to buy a Vista and get it registered as a taxi.

I know this because I have requested almost all the dealers to get me Vista Quadrajet with Taxi registration for commercial purpose but they are not allowing. In the end have to remain content with Indica DLS.
Im sure I have already seen vista taxis here.

Edit: nevermind didnt see the posts above yours

I am due to take my car for a change of the ECU. Let me see if the AC improves after that.

In that case, once you buy a car, and later change your reg'n to taxi, no one has the right to object. Primarily they may not sell the car as taxi.
In Mumbai however, I remember to have seen various brands from Swift to City with the yellow plate.

Hi Dilip,
As much i know, only a new vehicle could be registered as a taxi. A vehicle with yellow board can be revereted back to white board but not vice versa. Please confirm.

When you buy the car you get it with temporary registration. When you register it, it can be as a taxi.

Hi all!!
I think the A/C issue is being taken care of.
No new problems have been reported for some time now (or are the owners are too busy at the workshops that they dont have enough time to report).
So should we say it is safe to buy it now as almost a year has passed and TATA cars are normally bug free after a year.
By the way I have booked myself a Vista Quadra Aura (Solar Orange) expectiing delivery soon.
Cheers!

The ECU of my car has been changed for rectifying the AC problem. I am yet to evaluate its effectiveness.

I was having feeling that my AC is inadequate. When I tried to complain about this to TASS, they said AC is ok after checking. But after little bit investigation I found that front demister vents are not closing properly and I said this to TASS. When they removed dash to check this they found something was stuck in FLAPS there. After repairing this now AC is sufficient. At that time I asked service guy that why Indica Vista's are having AC complaints in general? then he said early Vista's are having problem in ECU. The cutoff of AC was happening before desired temperature. Thats why they are retrofitting new ECUs for early Vista.

Good thing is that my AC is fine now. But bad thing is that TASS guys ruined my dashboard. now it rattles like anything. However they tried to solve this problem very politely but as servicemen there are having zero skills they could not solve my frustration. Strange thing is that they can not refitt dashboard of Vista properly. I helped them in refitting my dashboard. But rattle is there and I have complained about this to Tata Motors. Lets see what happpens?

I have observed that the AC is generally inadequate in the blazing afternoon sun. However in the early morning, evening & night the AC is pretty adequate. This is something I observed over the weekend also. It also the back seat passengers who tend to complain about the inefficient cooling.
Wanted to know if some 1 can walk into the workshop & get the ECU changed? Are they willing to do that?

A new problem seems to have started in my car. I have been observing that whenever I shift directly from 5th to 3rd gear & then acclerate again, a smoke seems to be emanating. I saw this while going on the flyover. The smoke comes for a short time & then disappears. The car has been serviced, oil & filter changed at 10K kms. Is this something to worry about? Also request if some 1 can identify the problem & also suggest a solution for the same.

if you are downshifting, and the turbo hasnt spooled up ( you are at low rpms) some black smoke will come till the turbo spools up - since there is not enough air being fed for complete combustion.

One suggested option is to depress the accelerator gently. this should reduce the chance of smoke.

Have you tanked up on turbojet recently by any chance ? It has been known to cause smoking

I have filled-up with regular diesel from HPCL pump only. In fact 90% of the fill-ups have happened from the same pump only. So this problem is ruled out.
The problem of the turbo not spooling enough could be an issue. However I have tried down shifting from 4th to 2nd without any (smoking) problem.
Is this a sign for things to go bad in some time? I intend to tke the car for a 800 km run after 2 weeks. I am worried if something goes wrong then it will be real problem for all.

if the downshift happens if you are at lower revs, and you have depressed the throttle , then there will be improper combustion and smoke until the turbo spools up if the turbo is already spinning, then there wont be smoke - that is expected.

The spooling will take a finite amount of time. Drive another vista QJD to see if yours takes more time.

You might find some related info at the following thread if you think your turbo is having issues
