I'm also planning to buy a Creta diesel, working currently on the finances. I have some doubts on the vehicle though. Can you please clarify them for me?

1. Some reviews have stated that there is an excessive steering play at 100+ speeds on the highways. What do you say about that? Did you notice something like that?

2. So, your car shows the average speed, time etc. but doesn't have average fuel efficiency and range gauge. Is it the same with even SX(O) model?

3. Do you feel the arm rest is placed too backwards for your height?

4. Also, can you post some more pics showing the functions of the touch screen and reverse camera please?

Auto wipers, head lights, fuel efficiency gauge, even Auto dimming IRVM are conspicuously missing. Hyundai may have saved for the facelift.

I am sure the mods who are putting the official review together at the moment would be pulling their hair looking at the amount of detail you have penned down in your review.

As promised at the end of my opening post, here is a detailed look at the 7-inch touchscreen Satellite Navigation & Voice Commands-based Audio/Video/Navigation Head Unit.

First, the whole NAV part of the Head Unit in detail:

Default screen on the HU when you start up the unit.


It starts reading your USB drive and shows the Caution sign.
Click on "Agree" to proceed.
(Note: Steering controls will work only after you click on "Agree")


That's the first screen (if "Maps" is enabled).
Shows the exact position of your Creta and the location around.


Click on the button with the Navigation icon on the middle left
to reach here.


Click on "Destination" tab on the screen. This is the default screen and also the screen for the "NAV" button on the middle right as well.


Click on "Name" and search for your location by name.


Click on "Address" and search for your location by address.


Click on "POI Category" and select your
Place of Interest category from the list provided.


POI Categories continued.


POI Category - Click on "Automotive" for example.


POI Category - "Automotive" category continued.


POI Category - Select any sub-category and you can access this list.


POI Category - You can sort by Name, by Distance or by Category.


Back to NAV main screen:- Click on "History" to access this section.


"Address Book" brings you here.


"Emergency" section - nearest Fuel station, nearest Hospital, nearest Hyundai dealership or nearest Police Station.


Search for a location using it's "Coordinate"s as well.


And finally, the "Settings" section of the NAV. First up - Map.


Change Color sub-section. Toggle Map Modes here too.


Map View sub-section. I found 3D mode to be the best.


Map Display sub-section.
You can adjust fonts and also add/remove traces.


POI Display sub-section. Select those which you want to see.


Now, the Guidance section.




The Route section.
You can actually simulate a pre-destined route!


GPS section shows your current location AND
the number of satellites connected to your SATNAV device!


Language section - You can have User Interface &
Voice Guidance in Hindi as well!


Finally, the Reset/Info section under Settings.


Version Information. I think my Map is valid until 15.06.2016.

How I wish Hyundai, usually the master at providing features, did not miss out on some features like Cruise Control, Telescopic steering, rear disc brakes, HID headlights especially because they are charging a hefty premium on this car. In spite of this being the top-end petrol Cost cutting is also visible at some places like the plastic gear lever head and arm-rests. Other than this, there is premium oozing out from all quarters of the car. I am sure this is a car anyone would love to own!!!

An excellent write-up followed with pictures, thank you for the detailed info. After my TD with the SX(O) Diesel, my impression towards Hyundai has changed, the Verna 4S still disappoints.

Just a few things I noted in the Diesel top end-

1. The steering feels more weighted, it doesnt make it hard to maneuver in city limits, but on the highways it feels planted.
2. it comes with black leather seats and it offers excellent space, thigh support and comfort, by far the best Ive seen after the Safari.
3. Body roll was well controlled, but it was only a 10km TD, so really cant give a full green.
4. Brakes were good for a vehicle of this size.

Thank you once again for the excellent write-up, my heart is really in for this vehicle, just waiting for more diesel reviews and I will decide to give up my VENTO for this Beauty 'n Beast.

Other functions of the 7" Touchscreen AVN Head Unit:

PHONE:

Click on "Phone" button on HU.
System will ask to pair a cellphone via Bluetooth.
Enable BT on both (phone & HU) to pair.


Default Phone screen shows battery condition and
signal strength of your paired BT cellphone.


Click on "Menu" on the top right to access
Contacts, Calling List, Favorites & Bluetooth Settings.


Select "Contacts", and the HU will start downloading
the Contacts from your phone's Address Book.


Once download is complete, the Contacts list is shown.


You can search through the Contacts list for a specific number/person.


Click on the big, green phone button to access the last contact dialed.


Calling List will show you the last 90 contacts
you have been in touch with, including
the date & the time. (accessed from phone)


Click on "Menu" on top right to sort through Missed/Received/Dialled.


"Bluetooth Settings" brings you here.


Pair your phone through "Bluetooth Connection".


6 default Ringtones of the HU.
All disappointing like 90s Nokias!


Change passkey for pairing BT devices (4-digit).


Give a new name to your Head Unit. Default is "CRETA".


Click on the "MEDIA" button on the HU to enter here.


Select "USB Music" and your selected/last song
from the USB starts playing.


Scroll through the Album Covers of your collection.


Repeat can be toggled for Folder,


Single Track,


or Off.
Similarly, Random selection can be by Folder,


Off,


or On, for the entire USB drive.


The FM/AM radio section.


Click on "Menu" to access more options.


You get 20 Presets each for FM & AM to save.


Click on the "Settings" button on the middle left of the HU.
Notice the Volume bar when you use the steering-mounted keys?


First - Sound Setup.


Sound Balance section.
Bass/Mid/Treble all in range of -10 to +10.


4 Variable Equalizers on offer - Normal, Classic, Jazz & Rock.


Volume setting can be set independently for phonecalls and
for Start-Up tones.

Yes, for running below 1000 kms per month, petrol is the better bet. Not to mention the amount you save between the petrol/diesel variant difference can give you at least 3 years' worth of petrol as well.

Hyundai has priced the top 3 diesel variants quite steeply. Unless your running is over 1500 kms per month, they don't make sense in buying.

1. Nothing of the sort. The steering wheel is weighed well at 100-ish speeds, although it does feel artificially heavy. You don't feel a direct contact with the wheels of your car, like a Ford Fiesta or a Linea for example. But no excessive steering play surprises here.

2 - No average FE or distance to empty present (as in most Hyundai cars). I think distance to empty is present in the SX(O)'s Advanced Supervision Cluster. Naveen (BHPian naveen.raju) can clarify on this.

3 - Definitely yes. The only way I can use it is by leaning back in the seat when the car is in cruising mode and I am relaxing. Even then, the hard plastic on top of the armrest doesn't feel comfortable. Have to get the thing covered with the seat cover set to make it useful.

4 - All done in these recent posts up above. Go through all of them for complete details, my friend.

I am sure they had their reasons for not giving many features which are already present in their comparatively lower offerings (Grand i10, Elite i20, Verna 4S). Am sure most of these features will be added to the facelift which might be due in a couple of years.

But I am glad they didn't compromise on the basic things such as a proper full-sized set of engines, cutting bumpers and corners to duck under 4 meters, bigger sized tyres like the Creta deserves, the 6-speed AT from the Elantra, etc.

Fantastic Effort there Avinash and what a review!! You have managed to covered every bit of it and it can't get any better. Congratulations on yet another brilliant, well-thought, Clean and a worthy product from the Hyundai Stable. Their quality of cars have been top notch and it should keep you happy and smiling for years.

Only yesterday I had a Creta in my IRVM while It performed a U-Turn at a roundabout while I continued straight and It did give a feel of how big it looked from the front and as it continued to expose its side when it took that turn!

Excellent writeup. Congratulations!!! I read it completely. I too have booked the sx+. Hyundai should've offered SX(O) in petrol. Yes the pricing is on the higher side since most of the parts are from i20 and Verna.

Many many congratulations avi, your Lazarus looks absolutely smashing in white! As was expected, you have penned down a superb ownership thread and your eye for details is really really commendable.
Petrol SX+ seems to be a good VFM option and I am kind of leaning towards the same as well. My running is around 1k to 1.2k kms per month so am trying to figure out if I need the diesel or not. If only they had an SX(O) option for the petrol as well ( those 17" diamond cut alloys have me drooling all over them!).

BTW, I see the comparison you did with EcoSport petrol(1.0L ecoBoost). Agreed its a smaller engine but on paper it has more power and torque compared to the creta. How exactly is the real life difference in terms of power delivery and ride/handling quality?

The reason I ask is, in future when i go for my upgrade I need a petrol but need the turbo-blast(like the diesels) as well. So for me the turbo-charged petrols make more sense unless the NA engine is as explosive as the Etios petrol/1.5L iVtec.
