Symbols of indestructibility;

Just got back from a 7 day &
2300km roadtrip;
Mumbai > Kutch > Ahmedabad > Mumbai
Mumbai > Kutch - 11.5 hrz
Kutch > Ahmedabad - 7 hrz
Ahmedabad > Mumbai - 7.5 hrz
FE - 10.8 km/l
Some pictures;
Crossing the new Narmada bridge;
Took the Scarcely used Ahmedabad bypass road towards Bagodara;
Rajkot/Bharuch Highway;
The key to do long roadtrips is stopping less, but odd pee stops had to be made & some pics had to be clicked;
Common sight on village roads;
Somewhere before entering Kutch;
Netra, Nakhatrana District - Kutch (Good to see some windmills installed :thumbs up)

15 odd Months into ownership & have finally reached 15k kms on the odo;
:thumbs up
lol:
Yet again the seat dropped while taking an aggressive tail waggin left U turn in my parking lot;
Mixed feelings !
Update: 15k Service;
This was a minor service (5k interval) hence it was more like an check-up.
Brake Pads were inspected & with 15,800 km on the odo the life was as under;
Front - 6mm
Rear - 8mm
Minimum required for Manual Cars is 2.5 mm so i am good at-least till next service.
Air Filter, Cabin/AC Filter was cleaned.
Top Ups (Brake Fluid, Windscreen Washer Fluid)
Exterior Wash, Interior Vacuuming etc
Millenium Toyota, Thane did an excellent job & finished the work in about 55 mins :thumbs up
Total Bill - INR 1577/- (Incl. Taxes) :D
Recently the Fortuner played support car for ProjectE46 & transported freshly mounted tyres on the new rims;
Realised that the next best thing after new car smell is the smell of fresh rubber in a car :)

Hi Karan,
Can you please put some info from your experience between both the Fortuner? Basically related ride, handling, brakes, overall engine feel, etc.
This would be a good information for many people.

Hi,
To answer you queries;
Ride Quality: New gen Fortuner has a definite better & balanced ride quality over the previous gen.
Handling: New Gen Fortuner has better handling & you feel more confident in the high speed highway cruising & can place the SUV better in the corners BUT new Fortuner losing out on full time 4wd (which the old gen had) is a disadvantage with more torque hence definite traction issues as the car is eager to feel oversteery over cement roads.
Brakes: New Fortuner has better brakes v/s the old gen :thumbs up
Engine Feel: The 2.8L GD series engine seems like a newer, advanced adaptation of the older KD series, downsized with little gain in power and decent gain in torque i dont really miss the KD series to be honest.
The only 2 things i miss about the old Fortuner are;
1) Hood Scoop (As the older 3L KD engine had a top mounted intercooler hence scoop was provided)
2) Full Time 4WD (Major loss as the old gen Fortuner was easier for Driving fast in rain, concrete roads)
Aurangabad trip;
Had a business trip the Aurangabad last week, took the Mumbai > Chakan > Ranjangaon > Ahmednagar > Aurangabad route as i had work at Ranjangaon.
En route found this beautiful patch of mountain road / ghat;
^ Extremely fun patch, even in a Fortuner :)
Parked at my hotel in Aurangabad;
^ In this heat, its always nice to find underground/basement parking :)
TripLog;
^ 777 kms @ 11km/l
Observed some air loss (14 psi) in the rear right tyre so immediately got it checked for a puncture;
Searching;
Found the culprit;
Starting to kinda get bored/irritated with these HT tyres now :Frustrati

This is what happens. I am waiting for your comments when you will change them to AT's. Have heard that the Yokohama Geolander G015 have improved sidewalls.
BTW, how is the truck doing? Any trips?

Earlier this month crossed 20k kms somewhere on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway;

It was high time that the Fortuner needed an OTR session & it did get a day it deserved out in the wild;
On the Mumbai - Pune Expressway;
Fortuners Assemble;
The trail begins;
One of our Fortuner Owners recently bought an RR Evoque & came along for this expedition;
Some sections were tricky as it was a proper incline, loose rocks etc so with rain it was fun;
Other part of the trail was properly SLUSHY (screenshots from the video);
Did require some spotting & momentum but was cleared in 1st attempt;
Here 225 mm GC seemed less as the underbelly was scrubbing the soft muck;
Other end of the trail we had some opportunity for photo ops;
This Evoque had a stunning factory spec of white + gloss black elements (roof, wheels, badges etc.)
Group pic;
Solo pic;
^ & Just a few hours later in the evening the Fortuner took me & family for proper Italian Fine Dining and gelled in like nothing had happened, you can call it versatility or may be split personality :)
Update: 20,000km service;
The Fortuner visited Millenium Toyota (Thane) for its scheduled 20k service.
This was a major service & hence Engine Oil, Oil Filter, AC Filter were changed. Along with this the Air Filter was cleaned, wind shield washer fluid refilled, propeller shaft greasing was done & the brakes were cleaned and inspected (Brake Pads Life - Front 4mm & Rear 6mm).
The car also got the interior vacuumed, full body wash & a proper underbody wash;
Total Duration was just about 1 hour.
Total Cost: Rs 7616/- (Incl. of Taxes)

That's dirt cheap! I checked estimate for my Crysta manual, for 20K service I am seeing 66xx plus tax.
