I called up Fiat imdtly after buying the car after I was reaching nowhere with this Octane fiasco. He said I can use any petrol. There is NO issue at all. He also said Octane rating is the same in regular or premium though he also like others did not say anything about exact rating of any petrol. In his opinion he says premium will not give any benefit. so thats the reason why not to use regular. Only reason is not to spend extra money unnecessarily. I persisted *as I was planning to use premioum that time) & asked pointed que - will premium petrol cause any harm. He said no.

I got IOC XtraPremium filled this time. I could not check if any difference in FE as I took her to Lonavala today. However, in power, I slightly felt that car jerks sometimes. Jerks means it rapidly jumps forward in short bursts sometimes instead of linear motion. Its as if she wants to break free & compete with a jet. Will get it refilled again in 2 days & this time I'll check it in my usual B2B traffic daily drive

Lonavala Trip

The mudflaps I got fitted yday came very handy today itself. I could not stretch Linea beyond 145 kmph during my Shirdi trip last Weekend so took her to Lonavala today thro' Mumbai-Pune Expressway. Midway I said I wish it rains today & it started drizzling as soon as we entered Lonavala. Good that I got Mudflaps yday itself.

Well, I achieved the objective - stretched her to 160 kmph beyond which I could not dare it, tried only for a moment but I guess its difficult to go beyond (I've a FIRE Linea) & would not try to go beyond 160 kmph. At 160 kmph, she felt slightly unstable. I mean I had to make efforts to control her. This is contrary to others experience. Why was it so? I did it twice & after the 2nd time I stretched her to 160 & reduced speed thereafter, for 1 minute she was pulling very slightly towards left side & even at lower speeds was slightly unstable. I got suspicious if a tyre got punctured or what but soon she returned to her normal, steady, planted mode

BTW, on curves on steep ghats, she felt very very planted & was a real pleasure to drive. On return journey in dark, I was cruising her at around 120 - 130 kmph & it was as smooth as butter.

FE while going up was 12.5 kmpl (including roaming around on AQmby valley road & ghats. The avg speed till midway (toll naka) reached to 112 kmph on MID & fell sharply afterwards. Overall, from Expressway start - to - end the FE was 13 kmpl. So I guess FE for only return journey would be 13.5 to 14 kmpl
Here are a few pics
1. Avg speed pic
2. 160 kmpl on MID 1st time
3. 160 kmpl on MID 2nd time

Vahanpujari,
Good trip and nice pics. I love the way you deliberately take the car out to drive LOL- Linea love.

The unstability could be due to some issues :
1. As you mentioned it was slightly drizzling and the road surface was wet, am not sure whether you touched 160 on a wet road . Hope you didnt take that risk. If you did then on such speeds (aquaplaning) will make you seem like car is flying and has lost grip from road surface.

2. As you also havent got the 1st service done where wheel alignment is done i think maybe thats why it was veering to left. Even my car's alignment is a little out.

3. Max i touched was 155 on my way to chandigrah. Couldnt do more as family siren (dad) was with me and am afraid of those trucks, they turn whichever way they like. . It was a dry surface and i felt Linea rock solid and planted on the surface. Didnt once feel that i had to grab steering hard to control. Once i switched AC off (using comp button) as and there was a big difference i power and the journey from 120 to 140-145 was much faster.

4. Tyre pressure maintained by me is 33 psi in all tyres no matter how many are sitting in the car.

Finally, 120-140 is the max speed i think one should achieve here which is the best band too, not for FE for sure.

Collboy - I didn't took her to 160 on wet road. That time it was not drizzling. Also, the left side pulling was also temporary after I stretched her to 160 kmpl only for 1 or 2 minutes. The car does not pull on any side generally hence alignment should not be an issue. Also, after 1-2 minutes the left-pulling stopped

It felt that car was flying instead of planted for those few seconds

May be road curvature issue?

Could also be the road surface, but in any case I don't see the point in pushing an engine or car to its limit. Maybe it's just me as person who does not want to venture beyond 100kmh on Indian highways simply because things are so unpredictable in terms of traffic, animals and pedestrians.

Nice pics vahan and that's very decent mileage for the car.

I have found My FIRE Linea well planted and well in control even at 170kmph on expressway. High Speed is where the baby sings More the Merrier !

btw she is at the Fortune Dealership right now for my first service at 3000km. The Service executive told me that i will be charged for the Wheel Alignment and the same would have been free had i done it @ 1000 km. Do i need to pay ? Also, as there is no obvious issues , should i be doing the Alignment in the first place ??

Yes, these are THE same as yours. And I took back the box only to post a pic here for you. Also, when I went there, I took your pics on my laptop to check whether what I get will be similar or different. Back of my mind I was praying the rear flaps to be different not showing those ugly screws but that was not to be

Thats why I was wondering why my car was not felt planted. I could not take her beyond 160 kmph though I did not persisted. what should be the reason? Should I get something specific checked while at 1st service?

Wheel alignment I think is a part of 1st scheduled free service & they should not charge though I have not yet done the 1st service. suggest you call Fiat & check or may be other dealer

Wheel Alignment is done for free only.
Check your car Manual.

VP, dude it should be the wheel alignment issue. or maybe your baby must be demanding more patience from you and wanting you to show a little more confidence and then push her further than 160 kph . Try it mate. I suggest , you can come to kharghar and do a test upto 170kph on wide empty stretch of lovely roads if its not inspiring confidence on the highway. Infact most of the auto car shows do the road test near my place for all new cars isi bahane , We can catch up too !

On Free Wheel alignment at first service , I will check with FIAT as suggested by you and karthik. Thanks

Dont loose you sleep over it.... the feeling of stability is subjective. It depends entirely on the person driving. In anycase 160 kph is not the speed you should be doing on Indian highways

The expressway to be frank is quite horrible on the tyres. Day time running results in excessive increase in tyres pressure, especially when you are doing 130+ speeds constantly. Due to this, you car seems to start floating and there is considerable loss in straighline stability. The road surface also is deteriorating. I faced the same thing on my last trip to Lonavla, the car was moving left on occassions, even though my car did not have any sort of alignment issues. So I checked with my car alignment workshop (Saifee Tyres - Santacruz) and they mentioned thats its a common complain and its the expressway itself, not the tyres. Still, do check your car's alignment on a tar road (1st lane, near the divider) and check for any issues.

91 octane or not

A little clarity on the 91 octane concern. Am copy pasting a post by sgiitk. The gist of which is

Euro-III Cities: Petrol is 91 RON minimum
Euro-II Cities: Petrol is 88 RON minimum
Euro-IV (coming next year): 91RON min. Changes are in Benzene content etc.
IndianOil Xtra Premium: 93 RON

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/techni...ml#post1337727
Euro III cities include Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Surat, Kanpur and Agra
