Thanks bnzjobn, that's a very nice compliment indeed. Though I bought this tape from abroad, yes you are right, 3M is getting good business from the Lineans.

I came across this news article today. Does any of the members know anything more on this.

Auto manufacturer Fiat India could come out with a hybrid car by the year-end or early 2011, apart from an India-specific small car, a senior company official said here Wednesday.

"The hybrid car will be powered by CNG (compressed natural gas) and gasoline. We are (also) working on a very India-specific small car model. I can’t give out more details," Fiat India president and chief executive Rajeev Kapoor said at the ongoing Auto Expo here.

Isn't the terminology for such cars 'dual fuel'?

OT: Based on what was said by Rajeev Kapoor, one can only think that they would replace the palio with another model in the similar price range below Punto. Wonder which model this would be. Any guesses or idea from anyone?

Yes, it is. But, what could possibly be "hybrid" between CNG and Petrol in the same sense as we speak of hybrid cars now?

Hi Jaisha, when i took delivery of my Linea from Chennai, I had driven from there. From Trichur you have to latch on to NH47 (Hosur Road) and take Coimbatore byepass. At Salem, look for an exit on NH7 towards Krishnagiri. Just before Krishnagiri, take NH46 towards Vellore. Near Ranipet join NH4 which takes you to Chennai. The road from Coimbatore to Salem is two lane and widening work is in progress. From Salem to Krishnagiri is NH7 which according to me is the best maintained NH. Rest of road to Chennai is also good four lane road and traffic is not too high.

However, since you are going to chengalpattu, from Salem, you need to get onto SH 10 and join NH45 at Veppur. NH45 takes you to Chengalpattu. I am attaching requisite images, hope they help you.

Complete route

Kapil, thank you for this extremely detailed route with maps. I deeply appreciate the pain you have taken to give me all the details. Thank u very much, once again pal.
Just a query, which is the shorter route, is it the pollachi route via cuddalore or the one through coimbatore erode salem...etc.

The route from Salem to Veppur (more than 100 kms) won't be good because of the four laning process. I would suggest you the following route. Instead of shorter route explore for the better route so that you can reach the destination soon and safely. Considering this, I would like to suggest you this route.
Thrissur - Palakkad - Coimbatore - Bhavani - Mettur - Thoppur - Krishnagiri - Vellore - Kanchipuram - Chengalpattu

Jaisha, another option would be,
Thrissur - Wadakkenchery - Pollachi - Dharapuram - Karur - Trichy - Chengalpattu.

This route is also better instead of going via Salem.

Hi Jaisha, it is a pleasure helping out fellow BHPians. As Ramesh has said, it will be better to take the NH47-NH7-NH46-NH4 route as the roads are fantastic. Other route is shorter, but as told by Naresh, there is some widening work going on.

This is a better route. The stretch between Karur and Trichy may be painful because of the widening work. Trichy to Chennai, it is a fantastic route. Once, I did this stretch (Trichy - Chennai) in 3.5 hrs in my Getz.

My baby Linea will be 1 year old tomorrow. As I m abroad now, cant do much of a celebration for her, but surely will do when I get home. So as mentioned above taking her for a long drive from Trichur to Chengalpet (Tamil Nadu) after I get home.
