The VIN code I understand is exactly 17 characters. Yours is more than that.

ajay,

Yours chassis ends with AQZ, means Jan'09 manufacture. Hence your tires are also around that date.
We know that the Dynamics had less demand. But 7 months old is too long. Wonder if it has some problem.
I am skeptical that there was no demand for Dynamic till 7 months (that too diesel)?

sunil,
Your Linea is Mar'09 manufacture since it's CQZ.
My Linea is also a Mar'09 manufacture. And 4 tyres-Mar'09 and spare-Jan'09.

guys, no need to try to decode that chassis number. All you care about is month of manufacture. And 2009 is anyway known guess. So concentrate on the 1st letter of last 3 alphabets.

A= January
B = Feb
C= mar and so on

Mine is BQZ which means February manufactured and i got delivery in April with speedo disconnected. Those idiots must have used my car for some joyrides sometimes. Whatever it is, my car has had least niggles till now(touchwood ), just chrome falling, no squeaks and rattles.

Ajay
I dont think you should take a JAN manufactured car in August, demand for dynamic may be less but its a multijet and 7 months is too long a time. Ask them for a fresh car, waiting for 10-12 days now is better than repenting later.

Mine is EPZ. That makes it May 09. I took the delivery in June So I am happy with the Chassis number. I hope some niggling issues discussed in Linea have been taken care of in Lineas Manufactured in May.

All Emotion/Pks will be pretty recently manufactured. (max 1 month before delivery).

But dynamic/Active models which have less demand. So its normal to see they will be little old (maybe 2-3 months before delivery).

Prerana was bit hesitant to give the manufacturing details. Dont know why! Anyways i will get it from them.

Forgot to take a pic. Will take it if i visit them again.

Thank you all for your inputs.

I agree with the logic. Max. 2 months old stock is acceptable but not 6 months old and that too with such obvious visible defects. Might be Fiat is trying to push a reject through their dealers as i find it impossible that such issues have passed their QC.

I have told the dealer to get me a replacement. Since i am getting it through Leaseplan, i have added their muscle in this too

Lets see what they come up with.

PS: Does dealer have a say in the models which he is getting or is it that he has to accept whatever is dumped by the manufacturer?

Yes. 17 characters is the standard format of VIN abroad (may be US). But in India, the standardisation has yet not come & VIN format is different, hence websites decoding throws out certain characters which are not recognised in the standard VIN format.

e.g. Sunilrj's VIN no.

Sunil - inputting your VIN no. in the website throws out below:

My Beauty ---> Fiat Linea- HipHop Black-sunil.jpg

Whereas, actual manual decoding as per Indian format is as below

VIN No. - MCA11071709004338CQZ
  • CQZ - March 09 (mine is also CQZ-Mar'09 & I took delivery in Apr 1st week )
  • MCA - India & Manufacturer
  • 110717 - barrel or type of vehicle (mine is Petrol emotion pack with these numbers reading 110716 on VIN, so 110717 should be for MJD emotion pack)
  • 09004338 - Serial No.

Dealer has given my chassis number for Linea E+ MJD F.Red and the last 3 digits are FPZ - that would mean Jun 09? Dealer has only Bossa Nova White Lineas with GPZ (Jul 09). Is it ok to accept June 09 make car?

FPZ means June 2009, Petrol.
IMHO, upto 3 month old is absolutely ok.
1 month old is normal.

No mine is MJD not Petrol - earlier post says 110717 means MJD and 110716 means Petrol.

Guys, please confirm - I don't want the dealer to register a petrol car in my name !!!!
