Re: Leh in a Linea

Dear Ravi,

One massive trip with exciting tales and pictures-loved the way you covered the mileage done by the Linea's between stops. Surat to Bangalore one long drive??? Thank you for the treat-both visual as well as written. Will you be tabulating your drive??

My MMI Lx130 navigator has them all. But, I have to download the logs and decode them!

Re: Leh in a Linea

Read the TL from start to end and I was physically tired even reading about it. A few points I would like to mention here:
- as a solo driver, hats off to your planning, driving skills and patience
- as a co passenger, I admire your better half for supporting and accompanying you on this trip
- your writing style actually involves reader as part of the journey in a way that we experience what you went through too. No wonder I felt like I travelled this route too
Thanks again for sharing!

Expenditure Incurred

Here are the details of expenditure incurred after thorough auditing:
Leh in a Linea-expenditureincurred.jpg
Since we dined at road-side vegetarian Punjabi Vaishno Dhaba many a times, the expenditure on food was on the lower side. Very few times, we dined at restaurants.

The fuel expense alone works out to Rs 5.22 per km running cost.

We shopped at Amritsar and Srinagar. We purchased dried fruits, nuts, spices, Kesar, shawls, woolen mufflers, carpets, sarees, dress materials, etc.

A Confession

I have a confession to make: I was guilty of negligence resulting in my Linea getting injured while I was overtaking a road-roller at Drass during our return journey from Leh to Srinagar on 20 September 2011. While I was half way through, suddenly that road-roller steered towards my Linea, which I could see on my Linea's ORVM, but was helpless since it was a narrow pot-holed road, ultimately resulting in a long scratch on my Linea's rear left door, a deep dent on rear left wheel arch and an ugly puncture of rear bumper.

Later, I examined the injuries on my Linea, but the road-roller driver was minding his own business as if nothing happened. I continued my home-ward journey. After reaching Bangalore, I searched Team-BHP for an exclusive bodywork specialists and selected Sai Colorium based on good reviews. I entrusted my Linea to them on 11 October 2011 [Tuesday] and got her back on 14 October 2011 [Friday]. They have done a fantastic job in treating my Linea back to normalcy.

The expenditure incurred was Rs 7,700, which was a little above my present NCB. So, I didn't claim insurance for this treatment. I thought the cost would be upwards of Rs 10 k involving a complex job of replacement of rear PVC bumper. But, that was not the case. The bumper was repaired with heat treatment. There is no trace of any scar!

Now, I don't suffer from guilty conscience and my Linea, from injuries! I highly recommend Sai Colorium for bodywork.

Wow.

Seems like Sai Cars did a great work and is definitely VFM. There is no way i can say that this was repaired. The best part is that the repaired portion has the same shine as the rest of the portions.

Thanks a lot for the compliments and appreciation, manasmadaan, amit_mechengg and MAS. Yes, Sai Colorium has done a wonderful job. The colour-matching was immaculate. The cost was very reasonable and far below my estimate.

Did you try to get an estimate from Fiat? Just for comparisons sake.

Re: Leh in a Linea

Ravi Sir, I read this 3 times already. Kudos to you and your wife to make a great expedition like this. Your narration and photographic skills are just excellent. Hats off to you sir. My wife read her first travelogue of her life time and she got inspired from this and wants to do this next year.

After going through the good reviews in Team-BHP, I decided to get the work done from Sai Colorium as I didn't want to take chance with the others.

Thanks a lot, Naturalist, for the compliments. You can drive in any car. Please ensure that it is maintained in good condition to avoid any problem, especially at Zoji La.
