haha, it was my post in the past.

guys wanted grape extract meet but from last two years, the wi..ries all over india[some exceptions] are in red due to bad situation with the industry.

we will have meet when time permits [actually when my wi..ry owner friend's time permits].

BTW, our grand mumbai-pune meet is overdue.

We have only a photocopying machine in the office, which does only B/W scan - so no scans

I am thinking of clicking pictures of the pictures - just to satisfy you

The heat, the various things I am doing simultaneously (see my other posts of today), and digging out the old photos and clicking them have confirmed wifey that it has finally happened - i have flipped my lid! She feels that it is too much for me to handle, and has stopped pestering me.

Whoever thought posts in t-bhp will have such "fringe benefits"? hehehehe

Snaps of the snaps will follow shortly - preparing for today's posts.....

Next question...

The gates at the dam are automatic.

The water in the yesaji kank reservoir is the source of drinking and irrigation water of my city.
An engineer with a keen geographic interest (with associate interest in winery!) . Thank you, Sir. Are these pictures the photos of the same river? We took them after crossing the dam.

What has happened now is that the gates are CLOSED - they are not allowing public inside the dam area. Pune blasts, blah, blah, blah.... no pictures allowed - security requirements!!

So we move ahead - only to stop again...

Remember what I said about painters / artists - this is the time to roll out the canvas - how many of you believe that this is flowing water? Take a look at the last picture - I am not bluffing...

Only the faint ripple of flowing water hints that it is moving - albeit slowly. Again - that is all a A450 could do. If you were there, you would have marveled at the shades of green - which no computer can faithfully reproduce.

NO,
the river in the picture is NIRA river.
Bhatghar dam is built on VELVENDI river,
Nira devghar dam is built on NIRA river.
your next lot of pictures will be of nira devghar dam and backwaters which is upto varandha ghat.
I am waiting for next lot of pictures to locate one more fort.

I may have to start a "THANKS" thread, the way it is going

AP Saheb, there is a live map inside that head of yours.. better than google, wiki, bing or whatever else is there. Think you are in the wrong profession - you would have made an excellent cartographer (is that the right word?)

Let me not disappoint by prolonging the post - and how many of you are ready with the paints and brushes?

The form of this dam is different from the others - is there any other name or terminology for this type of construction?

Places like these make you feel that you are a very tiny part in the whole scheme of things - but collectively you can work wonders; AND there are some with foresight and wisdom, because of whose labours others enjoy the fruits.... I have gone there about thrice - just to sit and ruminate....

Magnificent Maharashtra - The Mahalog!-ruminate.jpg

And at last, a panorama that worked - fluke!

no, no.
rivers near satara are venna and krishna.

venna and krishna rivers are part of krishna valley.

nira and velvandi rivers are part of bhima valley.

the mountain of khambataki ghat[ ghat between pune and satara on NH4] divides bhima and krishna valley.

nira river is border of pune and satara district.

nira river flows just 20 km from 12mati[ my place].

Btw, all water from nira devghar dam, bhatghar dam and veer dam[ one more dam built on nira river near lonand] comes to 12mati.

the mountain and plateau behind dam in the picture no 2 and 3 is raireshwar plateau where shivaji took oath for Hindu kingdom.

raireshwar plateau has more flowers than kaas plateau.

Ashish Bhai,

Thanks. I need to understand the geography of this region better.
I just know the rail/road tracks and not the rivers and valleys!

One word of wisdom - especially when you talk to Gurus - if you don't know, YOU DON'T KNOW - Google and Bing be damned

I could picture AP Saheb with a cane in hand and ampere standing in front of him with shaky hands

Longdrive lover - Thanks. Lucknow to Pune qualifies for longdrive, perhaps??

MX6 - where art thou? Glued to some other thread?

All other previous viewers - no more pictures unless you chip in with your words of encouragement.... he he he

More ahead...

The sun is up now - shining down on the water. Not very clear in the picture (wait a little more, guys, to see what I mean) as the mist is lifting slowly.

We take a last look, contemplating to ourselves what it would be like to spend a lifetime here..
Magnificent Maharashtra - The Mahalog!-lastlook.jpg

And go ahead - towards a bridge which seems to lead nowhere!!
Magnificent Maharashtra - The Mahalog!-nowhere.jpg

A little ahead, more water!!
Magnificent Maharashtra - The Mahalog!-trapped.jpg

It appears to be trapped in the picture - but it is like a funnel, the water goes out of the narrow end to form the collection given earlier, I presume...
Magnificent Maharashtra - The Mahalog!-trapped1.jpg
(is this the same picture or was it a different camera - too many pictures spoil the story)

Magnificent Maharashtra - The Mahalog!-trapped2.jpg

Notice the change in scenery, anyone? The way landscapes after every 50 kms is unbelievable... I am now kicking myself that we skipped a crucial piece of road - more of that later.
Magnificent Maharashtra - The Mahalog!-trapped3.jpg

I feel like imitating Amitabh Bachan now - signing from KBC for the day - no more posts till Friday

(The auditor is calling it a day. Tomorrow is a holiday - audit be damned, I am going out - with new shoes on my Palio!!)

What are you doing there VRP? I go to conduct an Audit and I come back to see that your geography answer sheet is full of red ink left behind by AP teacher saab.

And don't mention the word cane here. People might mistake it to be Sugarcane (especially for a person from Baramati).

And VRP. Don't push readers for words of encouragement. When the person likes what is up here, the words will flow automatically. I'll take them on a trip tonight. Damn, I have to edit some 30 - 40 photos for this.

VRP, yes, it does and we may be there in Pune to say a big hello to people like you, MX6 (really likes his critical comments, and sort of 'jara hat ke' independent thoughts/observations), Rahul76 and others, in this June. Coming on a really long drive to south. Leave sanctioned, it'll be June 12-30. May pass through NH4 either for To or fro journey. Sorry for going OT!
