185/70-13 is the ideal 13" upsize for Baleno with 13" OEM steel rims

All you folks out there, anyone tried using the stock swift steel rims(14 inchers) on the baleno ?

I suddenly have this itch in me to do black powder coating on a set of steel rims(preferably 14 inchers) and shod my car with them for a few days .

Another purpose is that, I might have to drive to Kerala soon and keeping in mind the status of the roads there I am little paranoid driving there and scared of cracking the alloys.

Get the wheels powder coated/paionted in black but chrome the lip or give it a matching shade of silver. All black steel wheels are very boring.

Er.. if you're getting ready for the bad roads in Kerala why go for 14" wheels??

Sujay I don't think I would travel that far. My final destination will be Arthungal/Chertalla as a part of the usual pilgrimage we do every year in Kerala visiting churches.

Err, just confirming - should not matter if it is after-market 13" alloys also, right kpzen ?

185/70/R13 is what I am planning to go for during the next tyre change (from the current 165/80/R13). Used the calc at tyre_bible and see that the difference in circumference would be like -15.71mm (-0.84%). I guess this is the most ideal upgrade possible on 13" rims, right ? Or is there some other better upgrade ?

Also, as I see it, the pros of upsizing are increased handling/stability and looks. Any other pros ?

And what are the cons (other than the slight FE drop, which is OK with me) ? Will ride quality go down ? A slight screw up of odo/speedo meters, I guess. Any other cons ?

Not a problem. your alloys must be 5.5j right?

185/70-13 is the most ideal upsize for a Baleno...

Less amount of wheelspins in second gear is what my dad said after the upsize.

I couldn't notice any drop in FE. My dad consistently keeps getting 12kmpl..
Ride quality will remain the same..

Yes, it is 5.5J alloys. OK, so it will be 185/70-13 and the confusion of what tyre to upsize to, is out of the way.
Thanks, Prajesh.

No idea at all. Pre-tbhp, I would just get either MRF or Bridgestone or Apollo, whichever was available at the shop. What do you recommend ?

BTW, it was only because of your persuasion that I went for 5.5J alloys (I was planning to keep it the stock 5J), which in hindsight turned out to be a good decision.

Yokohama A drive, Michelin XM1 and Yokohama A300 are best options available at the moment.

rjstyles69,
i am using swift black rims on my red baleno with 185/65/R14 yoko c drives. absolutely fine with it. for spare the stock rim with 165/80/R13 remains ( due yoko being assemetric ones). had gone for those due budget problem that time but now i dont intend to change very soon.
