Can you tell me the costs for the same? Also, is electroplating better than painting? Also, I guess electroplating would involve complete alloys getting same color while painting would provide an option of getting selective parts painted.
Cost for electroplating would vary depending on factors like how easy or complex it is to buff your alloy wheel, what metal you want to be deposited on your wheels.

If the structure of the wheel is complex (curves and lines here and there), it would be a little task to buff the wheel. Further, having Zinc plated on it will have a different price tag attached to it rather getting say Silver or Nickel-Chrome. To make you visualize how a Nickel-Chrome plated alloy wheel would look, refer:

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...n-scorpio.html

I presume, a single electroplated in Nickel-Chrome should set you back by Rs. 800- Rs. 1100.

About which of the two coating process is better, it would be a little unfair to be biased to either. Just like the idiom goes; "Its like comparing apples and oranges".

Good question. The regular stresses that the wheels are subject to shouldn't be an issue. What might however be an issue is the heat.

Once again, I'm just speculating here.

Re: Alloy Refinishing - Painting / Powder-coating / Chroming

Got the Alloys sanded as there was too much corrosion in the center (near the nut area) & it had started powdering.

Posting the before & after pictures.

Points to be noted before sanding.
If there are "grains" those areas should not be sanded, else the original grains would disappear as the sanding would remove a thin layer of the surface.

Total cost Rs 1,600, did this in mysore, those guys came home & removed one by one wheel & did the job.

Now, job pending:
1. painting on the corners where the yellow arrow is shown
2. Lacker .

Re: Alloy Refinishing - Painting / Powder-coating / Chroming

Have been tinkering for a while with the idea of getting the alloys on my Polo spray painted/powder coated/electroplated to matte black. Looked up the internet, and was swept away in the deluge of too much information. It's just as bad here, but this looks like the best thread to ask.

1. Which is the best process (spray paint / powder coating / electroplating / others I don't know about) from the POV of finish and durability?
2. How strong a dose of Vitamin M will it require?
3. Any recommendations on where I can get this done in and around Andheri?

Thanks in advance...

Got a friend's alloy painted from Hyper silver to Matte black finish. This was done with spray cans.

Looks even better in real.

Sorry to bump an old post.

I have a 11 year old Santro Xing AT @ 75k kms, which is at the point, where a bit of "daana-paani" every once in a while keeps it purring sweetly.
Planning to retain the car for next 3 years at least considering everything is mechanically fine.

The wheels are looking well past it - after all these years... see pictures.

At the moment following options
a) Get the paint stripped down to bare metal, and re-paint.
b) Get a set of second hand alloys.
c) Do nothing

What would be the recommended option and why?

Are you running tubeless tyres? If so, are you losing air pressure very frequently? If not, the steel wheels are fine just need some cosmetic restoration. The first option in your post.

And if it is leaking air, the best option would be to look at new OEM steel wheels since you are planning to keep the car for 3 more years. They aren't that expensive.

Goodyear GPS 2 tubeless on all 4 corners. Losing air on front right wheel only. But manageable with twice weekly top-ups.

Is a cosmetic restoration cheaper than new steel wheels?

Twice a week is not good. Check that wheel, could be out of shape. Restoration will be cheaper. But, it cant fix bends properly.

Re: Alloy Refinishing - Painting / Powder-coating / Chroming

Hello everyone,
I have a Ford Ecosport with stock alloys and am really looking forward to getting the colour of the alloys changed in Bangalore.
Does anyone know a place where I can get this done?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Alloy Refinishing - Painting / Powder-coating / Chroming

Suggestions please -

Should I go ahead and ask the dealership to paint the alloys (in black, the car ordered is black as well), will it look good?

In which process of painting will the paint hold well? I do not want to get it painted every 6 months. Or should I leave it stock? (The new Scorpio)

Aftermarket paint is more prone to chipping in case you scrape the rim. Stock alloy would have a scuff.
I would suggest to keep it stock for now, get it powder coated later.
