Re: Rust In Pieces... Pics of Disintegrating Classic & Vintage Cars

Spotted this car rotting on the Hemant Kumar Mukherjee Sarani, near Lake Road in Kolkata. It looks like a Hillman Minx of the 1940's.

Spotted this 1100R routing away. I guess It's similarity to the delite/padmini makes it less tempting for someone to restore, and hence this fate...

Saw this old lady a few days back at Dadar. Surprisingly it had no dust on it! But quite rusted :(

BMF would be a Bombay Central registration, circa 1961. The BMC series was 1957 thru. 1960. BMF came around 1960ish, and then surprisingly there was BMH in 1961/62.

There was MRW, then MRX from 1962 onwards, IIRC.

Therefore, going by all this- This car would be a Select, with a Super Select grille. Pretty much the typical Bombay car- rusted, et al. The reverse indicators are from the Premier Padmini S1.

Can bee maintained in a much better manner, but let us all agree, that it is good to see these cars still running, in whatsoever manner.

Thanks a lot for the information sir!
"but let us all agree, that it is good to see these cars still running, in whatsoever manner"- Totally agree with this!
All we can do is just hope that this car will have a better future ahead and not end up with some scrap dealer!

Re: Rust In Pieces... Pics of Disintegrating Classic & Vintage Cars

The photo of the 1100 up here just made my heart skip a beat. I've been looking for BMF-6061, a black 1100, for almost two decades, along with MMB-2851 (Padmini).

Dear Impala59 - so you saw BMF6629! It stands some two minutes walk away from my house. Some years back it was black in color with the complete rear side panels removed and some aluminum side panels were riveted there. The complete spare wheel well was also removed and I had seen the bottoms of two LPG cylinders sticking out below the rear bumper. Maybe the owner was experimenting. It was never in original condition. I see it being parked on either side of the road so it seems to be in running condition.

As you were in DPC, did you see MHY1818 (grey) / MRX4847 (white) / MRX5508 (metallic orangish red) / MRY3128 (dark blue)? They are all within 5 minutes walking distance from my house. MHY1818 (super select) belongs to my very dear friend. MRX4847 (super select) is airconditioned and very nicely kept, it is used regularly. MRX5508 (millicento) stands opposite the DPYA high school. MRY3128 (super select) belongs to a very genial parsi gentleman who I regularly meet relaxing in our Dadar Parsi Colony Gymkhana, he has been using it for as long as I can remember.

Go, have a look! .

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

I actually was in a bit of a hurry. So just stopped to see your BMC8903 Select and saw this car while returning to the place where I had parked my car. Too bad it is not in its original condition!

However, I do remember one Millecento parked in a building nearby. Also saw an Amby very close to where your Select was parked. I will soon make another visit to DPC only to see all these cars

Thanks a lot sir for this information! I have to admit, spotting these beautiful Fiats indeed gives me immense joy!

My friends always wonder and find it amusing that I stop and adore these beauties. They only expect me to find something like a Ferrari or a Lamborghini beautiful (Since I am 20). Too bad they don't know how beautiful and elegant these old Italian cars are

Late 60's LHD Chevy/GMC?
Saw this one yesterday on the Kanakapura road.
Looked like a daily runner.

In all probability this one is running on some agricultural diesel engine.

That said, this one isn't from the 'Sixties. It looks relatively recent.

The registration is Bombay, the late 'Seventies.

The car might be rusting, but it certainly isn't rusting in peace/piece.
Wrong thread?
