Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

A few cars seen in the 1974 movie RESHAM KI DORI:

Incidentally, isn't the yellow car a Fiat 1200 convertible, and wasn't it used in this popular song from this other movie:

I forwarded this picture to fellow forumist Mr. Sarojesh in Kolkatta
this is what he had to say

Unfortunately the people in the pic couldn't be identified. But some info about the car - it is originally from Gurusaday Dutta Road, which is an upscale road in South Calcutta by the military cantonment, the owner was very likely rich & Anglicised.

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

A few cars from the movie "SAMADHI" (1972). More of the red Herald, and the grey one (actually TWO of each have been used, with the same numberplate! ) can be seen in this song from the same movie:

Off course, the gentleman sitting on the bonnet is Kali Banerjee and the one in suit is Basanta Choudhary, both distinguished Bengali actors of their time

Cannot make out the registration of the Fiat 1200, but if it is MRW 4326 then the car still survives. It was painted in metallic orange a few years ago and is now green with gun metal grey alloys. Looks fabulous :

The car of course survives, albeit with a gypsy engine I think. This very car was immortalised in the race sequence in the movie Waqt, racing against a yellow Austin Healey Sprite. The Fiat was red then.

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

A classic song here:

The song on the link below is original, in actor-singer Suraiya's voice, from the film Moti Mahal (1952), but the video is doctored.

The song was set to tune by Hansraj Behl and lyrics was by Prem Dhawan. There is no video showing the actual clip from the film Moti Mahal on You Tube. It would be really funny to watch the car that broke down creating this song for Madam Suraiya.

Please view the video on the link to hear the lovely song. The song audio
is VERY ORIGINAL

Lyrics of the classic song:

kabhi na bigde kisi ki moter raste me
kabhi na bigde kisi ki moter raste me
khade raho bas bebas hokar raste me
kabhi na bigde kisi ki moter raste me

kapde ho maile, munh kala kala
ho wo suraiya ya madhubala
aa ho
ho wo suraiya ya madhubala
bade bade bhi ban jaya karte hai joker raste me
bade bade bhi ban jaya karte hai joker raste me
kabhi na bigde kisi ki moter raste me

baar baar handle ko ghumaya
dhakke de de sar chakraya
dhakke de de sar chakraya
nikal gaya hai apna to haye re kachumar raste me
nikal gaya hai apna to haye re kachumar raste me
kabhi na bigde kisi ki moter raste me

tel pilaya dala pani
par jalim ne ek na mani
par jalim ne ek na mani
yaad aati hai humko nani ab ro ro kar raste me
yaad aati hai humko nani ab ro ro kar raste me
kabhi na bigde kisi ki moter raste me

sach kahti hai duniya sari
chalti ka hi nam hai gadi
chalti ka hi nam hai gadi
moter bhi chakda hai jab ho jaye panchar raste me
moter bhi chakda hai jab ho jaye panchar raste me
kabhi na bigde kisi ki moter raste me
khade raho bas bebas hokar raste me
kabhi na bigde kisi ki moter raste me

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

Thought I'd dedicate these post with Fiats to someone we all are going to sorely miss!
From the movie AAP KI KHATIR (1977), showing a Fiat Familiare/station wagon type of taxi, not sure if this was original or a conversion. Can be seen in parts of this song from said movie:

And an early Padmini (going by the President front grille but later PAL logo) seen as well.
