Early 1980's Mr. Shashi Kumar Kanoria, drove his 1931 Cadillac from Calcutta to Delhi, for participating in the Delhi Statesman rally and won prestigious awards in that show!

After this event in Delhi, he brought the car to Mumbai for an event which was held in the parking lot of the Turf Club. Today the car is white and in a private collection.

Here is a Humber of around 1915, looks a bit sad without headlight reflectors and lenses. It appears to be in Bengal maybe in / near Kolkata as it has white paint at the edges of the fenders. The number is 4 digit, but it does not match with the register with which we could check.
This came as a negative and is a scanned image.

The last four digits are 7204, but seems to have some kind of an alphabet prefix. Plain "7204" was a Ford, belonging to A.MacDonald of Howrah.

Likely a circa WWII photo, because of the white striping on the fenders.

Thank you for sharing. What a delightful story of a veteran driver and that too from a different era altogether. Imagine when she learnt to drive in 1938 the British ruled India and the best we could hope for was 'self-rule'; World War II had not started yet; Roosevelt was the President of USA & Stalin ruled Russia; China was in complete chaos & half civil war; it was a time before radar, jet engines, nuclear power, rockets - hell even washing machines, air conditioners and refrigerators were just entering the fray in USA. God bless her.

The picture shows his father Mr. Krishnalal B. Nallawalla in front of the Austin 7

when he took off for Sinnar near Nasik in 1936. This car belonged to the gent on the right of my dad. In this photo he was about to take up his first post as a judge. After reaching Sinnar, he ordered the same model Austin 7 for himself.

Here is the beautifully preserved licence once belonging to Mr. Krishnalal B. Nallawalla, Civil Judge.
