Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Finally we managed to find another pic of our 1957 Fiat. This pic (of our 57 Fiat and our MS Esteem) along with a dads friends Fiat was taken at Silent Hill Resort in Vapi.

Does this car survive (BLO 37)? We would love to buy it back.

[quote=mbz180;3353298][quote=wasif;3353188]Cool pic found on FB, showing Lord Freeman Thomas, Viceroy of Hyderabad on a visit to my old school back in the day when it was Jagirdar Collage

Great looking pic and superb car, what is it?

Wasif,

My first reaction on looking at the first photo was that it was a Cadillac and google thinks so too

It should be a 1933 Cadillac V8 or maybe a V12. 1933 models had the distinctive 3 bars for the centre section of the front bumper, as seen on the car in the photo plus the mascot is most like that of a Cadillac.
Yes it sure is a Caddy, such an imposing car, wonder what happened to it.

Any idea what the car in the second pic is, the one Azam Jah and his wife are exiting ? Could it be a Buick ?

It probably is a Buick though there may be a slight chance that it's a Packard.

3 nice cars and though off topic is that a real zebra ( This is what wiki has to say) Read about the Mullick Family, also mentioned is that the family owned 10 RR's and some 25 other cars.

Thanks Mohammed Bhai, your Caddy looks so much better in this new deep blue paint than it did in dark brown !

Hope to make it to HPS for the 100th anniversary

Yes, my apologies! It is indeed RB! And anyone able to identify the cars that can be identified? The one on the extreme left with the hubcap seen is a Ford Super Deluxe?

Kartik,

Been off the forum for sometime now and I just saw your post. Indeed that is a real zebra. These belonged to one branch of the Mullick family of Pathuriaghata (the wiki link you posted has a lot mentioned including my that of my immediate family, i.e. the Tagore's). The Mullick's are still around in this area along with our family.

Back to the zebra, to distinguish this branch from the other Mullick branches, they were referred to as "zebra" Mullick's because they used just zebras instead of horses for their carriages.

The RR's you mention, I think that Mullick was from another branch, his name was Pradumnya Mullick. Supposedly he had several RR's but ultimately he ran out of money and committed suicide.

And the Singer which is shown, in all possibility is the car that belonged to my grandfather's close friend who was from another branch of the Mullick's. His son and my father would go to school in the Singer when they were in nursery!

The car next to the Zebra carriage could be a Humber.

My guess is that this picture was taken in 1939. The clue is from the Plymouth in the showroom. The square light Plymouth P8 was produced in 1939.

Cheers

Exactly my thoughts! Also, apart from the distinctive Plymouth, the Fiat 1100B itself provides a clue.

The 1100B was produced upto 1939. After then Second World War, the Fiat 1100E was introduced.

The Fiat 500 Topolinoes seem to be Model A Topolinoes. Model Bs were produced post-war.

Cheers!
