So beautiful the roads and the circles were back then!

The earlier picture, when Bangalore was still the "Garden City" and the next one "already on its way to the chaos that it is today".

Change for the worse - that is all I can say, yet I had to chose to live in the chaos, at least for the time being

I really do miss the "old Bangalore" - even from the late 1980s

Ram,
Yes, fully with your relevant statement.Another sad thing is your home town Trivandrum is well on its way to that type of ''chaos''. In our country Chaos seems to be the major byproduct of "Development""

Nice one. On the left appears to be a 39 Buick, on the right is a high end Packard. A similar one with this extra chrome grille is in a Hyderabad collection, came from Gujarat. I think Gwalior had some of these as well.

Another picture found on ebay, described as " Snapshot of two friends sitting on a 1938 Lincoln Zephyr, The licence plate looks like Bombay, India "

I am posting two pictures ,the original one and the zoomed one where India can be clearly seen and very faintly Bombay too can be seen, in the lower part of the regn. plate. The picture is dated April 1940.

This looks very much like a Darbhanga picture with the Viceroy Lord Irwin. Perhaps, I am wrong on both counts.

Great photo though!

Thats strange - we can be almost certain it was not shot in India, I've never seen these style of plates. And we never wrote the city on the plate, that was a US practise. But where in the US?

Perhaps it's not BOMBAY on the plates. Perhaps it's East Bay or Mills Bay or some such.

If that is the case, it is possible that this is a Native American Indian plate. Some of these Indian reservations had their own plates, since they were exempt from certain taxes. Such plates would not have the name of the US state, but of the specific Indian reservation.

Thanks for the great pictures.

The "Arrival at Sukhui Villa" shows the Amir of Afghanistan in the back, with Gwalior driving. The Amir was at Gwalior & Agra in 1907.

I'm guessing the plate reads "District of Columbia" or "California".

In the middle photo, the first oncoming car is a 1948 Pontiac Silver Streak. Probably a similar year Ford Mercury behind it.

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

A postcard from Lindsay Street Calcutta.

Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars-kgrhqroqfgjjhmzfbrb4gview60_57.jpg

Either this picture was captured early in the morning or during riots/curfew, saying so since most shops are shut and since very few people are on the street, plus can see a couple of Police/military vehicles too . Just assuming, I might be totally wrong !!
