Yes, I have seen it a lot of times, and now I know who owns it.

Kartikeyal will know this car in his city, this "unique" car is often seen on the road over there. I was in Jaipur for a wedding in the beginning of December. One afternoon I was resting while my wife went shopping, she told me about a blue car she saw. I called the owner and asked him whether he was in a certain area, he was zapped as I had not told him that I will be in Jaipur. Subsequently I explained my location.
The point which I am trying to make is that ALL in Jaipur know this car, and our Kasli who received this photo from a "friend" has actually sat in this car and was driven around by the owner. Need I say more?

Cheers harit

Re: Pics: Vintage & Classic cars in India

Thanks to Foby and FB Page of Classics of Malabar and Cochin, we get to see this MG YA which was originally owned by F K Irani of Ideal Jawa, Mysore. Car still sports the Mysore number.

This car was also at one point owned by Mr. Jamal, President KVCCC, who still has a similar car , but to be restored, in his collection.

Here is a MG Y-type from Bangalore.

Quote:
The MG Y-Type is an automobile produced by MG in England from 1947 to 1953. It was offered in four-door saloon and limited production open four-seat tourer versions.

When production ceased, 8,336 "Y" Types had been produced, 6,131 of which were "YA" saloons, 904 were "YT" Tourers and 1,301 were "YB" saloons.

re: Pics: Classic MG cars in India

This is a recent import, 1932 MG J2 Sports Roadster. The car was featured recently at the Cartier, Jaipur.

Quote:
The MG J-type is a sports car that was produced by MG from 1932 to 1934. This 2-door sports car used an updated version of the overhead camshaft, crossflow engine, used in the 1928 Morris Minor and Wolseley 10 and previously fitted in the MG M-type

The J2, a road-going two-seater, was the commonest car in the range. Early models had cycle wings, which were replaced in 1933 by the full-length type typical of all sports MGs until the 1950s TF. The top speed of a standard car was 65 mph (105 km/h),[2] but a specially prepared one tested by The Autocar magazine reached 82 mph (132 km/h). The car cost £199 [1].

The most serious of the J2's technical failings is that it has only a two-bearing crankshaft which can break if over-revved. The overhead camshaft is driven by a vertical shaft through bevel gears, which also forms the armature of the dynamo. Thus any oil leak from the cambox seal goes into the dynamo brushgear, presenting a fire hazard.

Rather than hydraulic brakes the car has Bowden cables to each drum. Although requiring no more pedal force than any other non-power-assisted drum brake if they are well maintained, the drums themselves are small, and even in-period it was a common modification to replace them with larger drums from later models.

The car looks outstanding and I understand that this particular car has some racing history.

re: Pics: Classic MG cars in India

Thanks KPS,

One can hardly expect anything else from the stables of Gautam Singhania, the latest entrant on the vintage scene.

Tweety says he is in the process of buying 100 cars for his upcoming museum in Thana, should be pure eyecandy when thrown open to the public.

We will see more of his cars at the coming VCCCI event on march 16th and 17th.

re: Pics: Classic MG cars in India

This MGTB from Chennai was in Bangalore for the FHVI-Mysore Rally.

The MGTB was introduced in 1939 and only 179 cars were built. Source

Re: Pics: Classic MG cars in India

This car was in long term ownership in Bangalore. Unfortunately, the owner was a KVCCC member, but passed away prematurely.

The car remains in Bangalore.

Re: Pics: Classic MG cars in India

Here is an MG 1100 (unlikely that it's the later rare 1300 model).

Re: Pics: Classic MG cars in India

The last car restored by TEAM CSA of Mr. C S Ananth happens to be a MGTC.

The car was a Bangalore car before sold on to Chennai

The car is seen in a KVCCC Rally, Bangalore

Mr Ananth writes
Quote:
I wish to inform you that with the last car going out of the workshop last week, the story of my restoration company,TEAM CSA has ended. TEAMCSA has closed down..

Feel sad the CSA is physically shut, but it will live on, through cars like this MGTC on the road!

I don't think there was an MG1300, it was replaced by the Austin 1300GT.

This car is pre 1968 and was a daily driver for a long time. I used to see it come into school 2-3 times a day - drop, lunch and pickup.

I just read that post '68, a version did come out with a 1275cc engine, hence known as the MG 1300. However while the 1100 was still sold alongside, the 1300 was rather rare and on sale only for 3 years until '71.

But yes as you said, after that there was only the Austin/Morris 1300GT.
