I believe that this car along with a 1936 Merc have finally been rescued, and have gone to/are going to Jaipur for restoration.
I have seen these cars about 20 years ago, that time the Merc was white, MG was as seen in these pictures, Merc had original headlight glasses with the Merc logo etched on them, only one door was removed and lying in the car.
Wow i didn't know this fact. Could we have some pics of such glasses ? I always thought that the lights and other electrical components were made by either Bosch or Hella for Mercs.

The chassis in most cases can be repaired and so can the head . Any pics of the merc ?

1) Many manufacturers of parts do put the emblem/symbol of the car manufacturer on their product. Light would have been made by Bosch or Hella, for Mercedes-Benz. Will have to hunt for a pic.
2) Sure the chassis can be repaired, the head normally not. The sidewalls of the cooling medium passages give way, these cannot be put back, a new head has to be cast.
3) For that we will have to ask Mr. Benz.

Cheers harit

1). Ok would be looking forward to seeing the pic.

2). Yes in that case it cannot be repaired. It depends on what damage has happened to it.

3).Since you know the owner why don't you reveal it ?

Yup. My car; and my hairy forearm too! Took it out for the Fiat club rally in Bangalore today and accompanied our fair city's intrepid and friendly Fiat-ers for their monsoon run. My car is on the road for the first time since October 2004. Just finished some major mechanical work, over the past one and a half years. Had a blast, drove to Devanahalli and clocked more than 100 kms today. Monsoon, the sun playing hide and seek with the clouds, an MG with the hood down... bliss!!! Thanks, Manish!

I was so engroused in the MG that even forgot or had courtsey to say hellow to the owner and introduce my self. I was the one who requested you to open up the engine bay and ask about the OIL can and lots of other stuff . So stupid of me. But then at every rally I am practically lost. Sorry for my Ignorance Raghu (tonrag).

Good to see you back Tonrag - she looks lovely, especially in BRG. And thank you for not fitting whitewalls! Now when do we see the Mini wagon?

Glad to show you round the car anytime, Manish! And also give you a ride in it, whenever you want. And good to hear from you, Karlos! Yes, I've been very busy of late and did not have much time to post on team-BHP, though I used to read the threads with great interest.
I got the tyres from the UK last year, as also a new set of wheels. The older ones were seriously warped and after several futile attempts to set them right, I gave up and imported the tyres and wheels. They were expensive, but I was still able to get brand new ones at a bargain at Beaulieu last year. I'm not an extreme purist when it comes to the cosmetics, but whitewalls on a TC are a strict no-no for me. Once I got the wheels and tyres, I balanced them and then put them on the car. Then I discovered play in the front axle bearings, leaky oil seals in the rear and a non centred rear axle. These have been rectified with technical help from the MGtabc.org crowd, a most personable lot of T series enthusiasts. Many of them have developed home grown solutions to some chronic MG mechanical problems and I have, with their advice, used tapered bearings in the front axle and modern oil seals in the rear. From now on, the work is one of a rolling restoration. Cosmetics are the next in line; I need to get all the meters to function. There is a lot of debate on replacing the original steering box with a VW or Datsun one, but after yesterdays drive, I prefer to retain the original steering set up. The brake drums are rather thin now, so I might go in for cast aluminum Alfin drums at some stage. I like to drive my cars regularly and do thrash them within limits, of course. (yesterday I was cruising at 90-100 kmph) so mechanical reliability is paramount. I've got hardened valve seats and valves to convert the engine to unleaded fuel. Will open up the engine soon to fit them, but not before I have about 1000 kms under the belt. Am sorely tempted to drive off to Pune one of these days! Any rallies or drives there in the near future?
The Mini is at home now, but is it appropriate to post a picture here?

Hi Tonrag.

Your MG looks real nice and good to knwo it drives as well too.

Love that Castrol oil can in the engien bay, beaulieu ?

It would be good to get it mechanically sorted, all the meters running, and rnjoy it that way instead of doing a full cosmetic job and then you end up keeping it in the garage and just looking at it.

Whats up with that BMW project of yours ?

Though it was a short meet, i will now surely drop into your place sometime. The sound of your MG is still ringing in my ears. I think i made a good decision to drive my Bus to Devanhalli. i atleast got to meet you and your car.

That road is really wonderful stretch, a big boon to any motorists, Thank you Bengaluru. Even i did close to 150 kms yesterday on my Bus.

Hi Tonrag, glad to hear from you after long time. Interesting to note about your MG. Appreciate if you could write about your Austin-7 and Morris, I think you were tuning up Austin-7. What about blue Chevy Fleetmaster is it taken out occassionally or just stay in the estate.

Hey Raghu, seeing your post after a looong time ! Congrats on a great job on the MG - she's looking lovely, the green shade suits her so well !

Can you post photographs / information on your Mini in the "Pictures - vintage and classic cars in India" thread, or any other you deem fit ?

Well it had to happen! On Sunday, I escorted my son in the MG (who was riding a friend's Jawa Jet) for the international Jawa day in Bangalore and a short distance from the venue, the oil pressure pipe sprung a leak, spraying oil spectacularly everywhere in the engine bay! Had to park up in a friend's place, which was luckily close by. Have now made up a new pipe, from high pressure hydraulic hoses and will fit up in a day or two. A lot of people ask me why I drive such a precious car around. But driving is 90 % of the fun of having a car! I drive hard and if something breaks, I replace it and eventually, everything that breaks gets fixed; and then nothing breaks ever. Plan for a long ride, maybe to Mysore or so, over the weekend. Believe me, there can be nothing more fun that watching that long bonnet dancing in front of you, the song of the engine ringing in your ears and the wind whistling by. Even 100 kmph feels like a lot! Any partners for the drive, in their classic cars?
