Didn't exchange my old car (Hyundai Eon Era 2012 petrol)

Had booked Ford Freestyle 1.2L petrol initially (Was the first choice) (was expected to be delivered by September end, 2021) but cancelled after the official announcement of Ford's exit.

Was in dilemma regarding Altroz 1.2L P NA vs 1.2L iTurbo vs 1.5L D. Opted for iTurbo as am primarily going to drive in the city, with fortnightly highway runs.

Congratulations. Any particular reason why Nexon EV or MG ZS EV was not considered for a budget of 21L?
On a side note, worrisome looking at the current pricing of cars. Pre owned ones are now making more and more sense than spending 20+L on cars like Seltos/Creta.

Re: The "I Booked my Car" Thread

Make/ Model: Tata Tigor EV
Variant: XZ+
Type: Electric Vehicle
Gearbox: Automatic
Colour: Daytona Grey DT
Booking amount: 21k
On-road Price after subsidies: 11.43L
Delivery: December 2021
Discounts: None

I was in a dilemma regarding which car to purchase; Tigor EV or Nexon EV. But, given that both have a similar range and would primarily run as point A to point B cars with my daily run of ~70 km, Tigor made sense from an economic perspective. It didn't make sense to spend another ~3.80 lakhs for a Nexon EV XZ+. Booking is online and apparently, there is a FIFO queue in place. Bookings for Nexon EV seem to far exceed those for the Tigor EV. Also, I found the Tigor EV to be a better city drive vis-a-vis the Nexon EV, particularly for my senior citizen father.

Thanks for the message. No particular reason as such; just that I was looking to buy a SUV and was considering Compass and others. Since I didn't buy them for various reason; settled at Seltos.

I am closing tracking electric vehicles and am hoping that Seltos is the last ICE that I am buying. My last car was pre-owned (less than 10 months when I bought it and at around 18-20% discount of the original price). This time I somehow felt of buying a new one (especially considering the premium that Seltos has in used market; if it doesn't click, may flip it).

I completely agree on pricing bit; its just not making any sense and has increased disproportionately. Kia's and its dealer overall margins must be really high as they are selling cars 12 months a year and without any inventory line up. Crazy times that we are living in and it took me lot of time to accept the reality as I was also not able to accept the value proposition!

Re: The "I Booked my Car" Thread

I don't know if it's right thread to post this query or not. If not then would request MODS to transfer it to the correct thread. Today went to check discuss the price of Hyundai I20 Asta IVT. Now in order to negotiate properly I want to clear some doubts. Is there any scope to negotiate on price quoted under Road Tax and Registration charges? Is there any margin for dealer to reduce theses prices? I'm asking because according to what I've read on net in UP the road tax is 8% if the vehicle is between Rs 10L to 20L. So 8% of Ex showroom price of I20 asta comes to around 79k whereas in the price list provided by the dealer it's 89k as Road Rax. Is there anything I'm missing here? Would be really glad if someone could help.

Thanks

There could be a CESS on road tax. It is there here in Karnataka, not sure about UP. But it could be that. Road tax + Cess (some %) on road tax. Please ask the dealer for the break up of the tax.

The registration charge is 8% for vehicles <10L and 10% otherwise. But since i20 Asta IVT is priced below 10L, the road tax will be 79k. Registration fee and HSRP cost combined will cost around 1k and hypothecation (if applicable) will cost 1.5k. So in total, the registration should cost you 82k at best and the dealer is overcharging here. (I assume the car is billed to a dealer within your city and no temporary registration is required which would add another 1.5k)

It happened to us too. When we bought the Swift Dzire back in 2013 we had to get the registration done by ourselves, as the dealer was located in another city. After the process, we found out that the dealer was quoting 4k above the required amount for registration.

Ask the salesman about this. If he refuses to reduce the charges then you can always get the car registered yourself, but it would require time and dealing with the government employees, whose working efficiency we all know about.
