Re: The "I Booked my Car" Thread

Just booked our first ever new car!
Its Maruti Suzuki Ignis Zeta Amt.
Location: Palakkad, Kerala.
Color: Nexa Blue.
Price: Approximately 7.9 lkh On road including ex. warranty etc. though I am still thinking about the items to include/exclude.
Delivery is expected in around 2 months.
The car is going to have really low running at-least for first few years as we live abroad. However our old Wagon R (2008 make, bought as used, back in early 2017) is showing its age and it's time to make an upgrade while we still have some nice small peppy ICE around. I am really hoping to keep the car for next 10ish years.

Re: The "I Booked my Car" Thread

Its in my favor that cars have long wait periods, so booked mine just in time when I would have to let go of my current car and start saving up for the next goal.

Congrats man!!
A bit confused about your OTR, how did you manage to give only 43k to RTO? Also how much did the insurance cost?

I went for the BH registration where you need to pay tax for 2 years. The insurance costed me Rs 54k approximately, I had 35% NCB for which I got a refund of 6K, so ideally it costed me 48k for the Insurance with Zero dep, Return to Invoice and engine protection add on covers from Royal Sundaram

Honda dealer in my city too was trying to force his homemade rules on me in 2017. I immediately called the toll free One2One of Honda Cars India Ltd and highlighted their dealer's whims, the said dealer got a good verbal bashing from their higher ups.
Resultantly I took insurance from the insurance company of my choice and simultaneously got the cash discount from Honda as well as bargained for dealer discount too. Floor-mats for the seven seater, leather steering cover and rain-cover were offered as freebies from the dealer end. The said dealer was offering me comprehensive insurance at a premium of over Rs.45,000/- for an year whereas my insurance company gave me the same for Rs.22,000/- including zero depreciation policy in claims.

It's your money and you decide what's the best deal you get out of it.

Demand your benefits for the money you pay and if the dealer does not respect you then involve the Manufacturer OR purchase from a Dealer who respects your legitimate demands.

But the dealer specific cash discount is something the manufacturer cannot control I believe right? I checked (not properly) about the various insurance options from policybazaar and most come to 20k-22k and hyundai one is 40K. If I don't take insurance from hyundai then I can save 20K directly and if I take from dealer, I end up saving 10K.
I am not sure how I can get both, outside insurance and dealer level discount. I am not a good negotiator and this is first car for us.

Sorry I forgot to ask you before. I can change whether to take insurance from hyundai dealership or on my own at anytime before invoicing of car happens right?

Dear brother, sorry for the late reply.
Dealer specific discount is indirectly controlled by the Manufacturer. What I did was complained to Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) regarding monopolistic business policy of the dealer who was trying to extort profits from me and causing loss to HCIL. I was then offered bigger discounts by HCIL and the dealer too gave discounts after he was taken up behind curtains by the HCIL. My complain to HCIL highlighted the said dealer's monopolistic business tactic which was causing loss to HCIL by discouraging buyers and bringing down sales. Calculate which path brings you more discounts or lesser price and proceed accordingly. All the best.
Within a month after I took delivery of my car the said Honda dealer initially refused to honour my claim for sidewall damage on front right tyre at the said Honda Dealer's Workshop. I strongly complained to HCIL with my highest negative review for the said dealer. And also bought the matter of tyre's damage before the tyre manufacturer Michelin which was allowed for free replacement by Michelin. The said dealer within a few months later lost the right of Honda Car dealership; HCIL revoked dealership from the said dealer.

Regarding your second query I would say that you can take your own insurance apart from the dealer's insurance anytime before the DELIVERY happens, not invoicing. If you make the dealer clear that you'll be getting your own insurance then that has to be done before the date of delivery because delivery of new car from showroom would not be given unless insurance cover has been taken for the new car.
