Maruti Suzuki MGU replacement process explained

1.82 lakh cars which include the Ciaz, Ertiga, Vitara Brezza, S-Cross and XL6 have been affected by a faulty MGU.

In September this year, Maruti Suzuki had announced a service campaign for the Ciaz, Ertiga, Vitara Brezza, S-Cross and XL6 to replace a faulty MGU. We can now share more details of the repairs that are being undertaken on the affected cars

According to the SOPs published by Maruti, the MGU replacement process is quite complicated. The kit consists of the MGU, driveshaft nut and drain bolt. The technicians will remove the air filter housing, right-hand side wheel, wheel arch trims, and a few suspension components. The gear oil will be drained, and the driveshaft will be removed.

Next, the MGU will be replaced along with the axle nut and drain plug. The ECM will be updated, and DTC codes will be cleared.

It is said to be the largest and most complicated recall ever undertaken in India. Maruti Suzuki has been training the technicians and stocking spares since the recall was announced in September this year.
