Mercedes-Benz C-Class diesel launched at Rs 39.90 Lakh

Mercedes-Benz has officially launched the new C-Class diesel today. The W205 C-Class has been launched in its diesel avatar at a price of Rs 39.90 Lakh for the C 220 CDI STYLE variant, while the C 220 CDI AVANTGARDE diesel is priced at Rs. 42.90 Lakh (both prices ex-showroom Delhi).

The diesel variants of the new C-Class will be available as completely built units (CBUs) only. Mercedes-Benz has also launched the locally assembled C 200 Avantgarde petrol at Rs. 40.90 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi) i.e. the same price at which the CBU C 200 Avantgarde was launched.

The C-Class diesel is powered by a 2,143 cc, 4-cylinder engine that produces 168 BHP from 3,000-4,200 rpm and 400 Nm of torque from 1,400-2,800 rpm. Mercedes-Benz claims the car will do the 0-100 km/h run in 7.4 seconds, before hitting its top speed of around 233 km/h. The claimed fuel economy figure comes in at 19.27 km/l. Transmission duties are carried out by the 7G-TRONIC PLUS auto-box.

Safety features include 7 airbags, ABS, BAS, ESP, ASR, hill start assist, attention assist and adaptive high beam assist among others. The feature list includes artico leather draped "cobra-look" front seats, 3 colour ambient lighting, panoramic sliding sunroof, a reversing camera, key-less go, the new generation audio 20 CD infotainment system with a touch pad, Bluetooth connectivity and a Garmin 3D SD card navigation system. The car also gets the AGILITY SELECT drive mode selector, where drivers can choose between comfort, economy, sport, sport+ or individual driving modes.

Local assembly of the C-Class diesel is expected to commence later this year, while the C-Class petrol will be assembled alongside the E-Class, S-Class, ML-Class and GL-Class at the German car makers' plant in Chakan, Pune.
