Rumour: Toyota mulling over C-HR crossover for India

Toyota is reportedly planning on bringing the C-HR crossover to India. The automaker is aiming to launch the car here by mid-2018. It is expected to be priced to compete head-on against the Hyundai Tucson.

The C-HR was first unveiled as a concept at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. Toyota subsequently showcased updated versions of the C-HR concept at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show and LA Auto Show. The production version of the C-HR was finally launched in Japan in December 2016.

Built on Toyota's New Global Architecture (TNGA), the C-HR gets a slim front grille that extends on both sides to integrate into the swept-back headlamp assemblies. The front bumper houses a wide horizontal air dam. The side profile is characterised by a sloping roofline, bulging wheel arches and an unconventionally located rear door handle near the C-pillar. The rear features a steeply raked windscreen, sharply contoured tailgate and boomerang-shaped tail lights.

The C-HR gets an all-black dashboard layout, with the centre console slightly tilted towards the driver. It comes with brushed aluminium and piano black inserts across the cabin, while a freestanding touchscreen infotainment system is located at the top of the centre console.

Powertrain related information about the India-spec C-HR hasn't surfaced yet. However, reports suggest that Toyota might bring a turbo petrol engine to India with the C-HR, along with the regular diesel engine options.
