Test drove the MG Comet: Somethings impressed me, some not that much

Interiors look and feel great - good to see a super mini car with good quality.

Got to test drive the Comet very recently as part of my garage dilemma. It's funny I am checking out cars from the Comet to a Taigun and a Jimny to checkout my use-case. Coming to the Comet, I went to the showroom with an open mind. I always loved the way the Comet looked - super neat design with the large front doors and aesthetically pleasing interiors. Also test drove it for a good 8 kilometers and tried parking at a couple of places as well.

Likes:

  • Great design - in and out with good legroom at the front and back
  • Interiors look and feel great - good to see a super mini car with good quality.
  • Peppy to drive around the city.
  • All the EV cost-saving benefits.
  • Parking was such a breeze.
  • I really love EVs especially as a city vehicle. Super light and easy to operate (I feel like using 'operate' against 'drive' for some reason).

Dislikes:

  • The seats felt too tiny for my averagely medium frame. I found the under-thigh support to be absolutely inadequate
  • Tiny tyres make you feel everything on the road. The ride overall, felt a bit harsh over city roads
  • Ergonomics - Couldn't find a comfortable driving position at all even after several trials. The steering felt too far if I pulled the seat behind for a comfortable pedal position. Else, the pedals were at a weird angle. I was always in a compromised driving position.
  • Pricing - as much as it makes sense to many, it absolutely didn't make sense to me. 10 L did feel like a lot of money on this car's top end even with the features it offered.
  • Also kept feeling a little intimidated on the road. I do own a Nano and have not felt that way with it though. I didn't understand my mind.

It's a purpose driven car and people who love will absolutely love it for sure. Just felt it doesn't serve my purpose. Cheers!
