Karnataka govt. to launch its own ride-hailing app

Similar government-owned ride-hailing apps have already been launched in Kerala and Goa.

The Government of Karnataka plans to launch its own ride-hailing app, similar to those offered by Ola and Uber. The new app is expected to be rolled out within 6 months.

The ride-hailing app will be developed by the e-Governance department and will be run on a 'no-profit, no-loss' basis. The app will allow users to book cabs, auto rickshaws and licensed e-bike taxis. It will also have built-in features for the safety and security of customers.

According to the State Transport Authority Secretary, L Hemanth Kumar, the transport department will work on the modalities of implementation, while the platform will be managed by a third-party administrator.

Kumar also said that there have been complaints from unions about the high commissions charged by ride-hailing companies. Customers are also forced to deal with dynamic pricing during peak hours and service charges.

My observations on the IRA app after using it in my Safari Dark Edition

The app also provides diagnostic support. You can request for quick diagnosis of the systems and you get the status on your phone

BHPian negi15 recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

About the IRA App:

Have been experimenting with IRA app for the past week. So, though about sharing more about it.

Tata provides connected car technology using the IRA app. The way it works is that each vehicle has a mobile sim attached to it from factory. This sim is responsible for accumulating the data and uploading it on servers. As soon as car was invoiced in my name, I could see the vehicle moving in my app. However, this was disabled soon. When contacted, they mentioned it is only enabled after KYC is complete post delivery. You can access this data on servers through the app and even send few remote commands to your car. It has benefits for those who have a chauffeur driven car. This app provides the below benefits free for one year or some data usage limit whichever expires earlier:

Remote commands: You can immobilize the car in case of theft. You can lock, unlock, turn lights on , setup the horn remotely. These are available on the Home Screen:

Geo-fencing & time-fencing: You can set a perimeter around your area. You will get notifications via the app if the car moves out of this area:

At any point of time, you can find location of your car and set a trip to reach there.

It also provides diagnostic support. You can request for quick diagnosis of the systems and you get the status on your phone:

SOS. You can enter five emergency numbers. On pressing the SOS button, all these contacts get notified. Haven't tried it:

Trip meters and service centre location: You can set trips and navigate. It also has inbuilt location of nearest workshops in case you need them anytime:

Please note your driving skills are also getting captured by this app. It will keep on accumulating your driving style details and provide you with a score and will also provide details about harsh braking, harsh accelerations etc.

Finally, there is some social group called tribe kind of thing. They are basically owners of Safaris and Harriers who have joined the tribe. A leader board is maintained for distance, fuel efficiency and driving skills on daily, weekly and monthly basis:

In case, you do not carry the car manual in your pocket, Tata has also created an app for the Tata manual, which provides this manual as an easy interactive look-up table. Do try it out:

The app has a lot of issues. Seems like we are Beta testers of the app and Tata has saved some cost there and we are their testing engineers.

Bangalore: Auto unions develop own app to challenge Ola, Uber

Namma Yatri fares will be as per the government-fixed rates.

Auto unions in Bangalore have developed their own mobile application called ‘Namma Yatri’. The new ride-hailing app has been designed to take on the aggregators like Ola and Uber.

According to a media report, the Autorickshaw Driver Union (ARDU) have developed the app in collaboration with the 'Beckn Foundation', supported by Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani. The new app will be launched on November 1, 2022.

It is said that auto drivers are frustrated due to the large commissions charged by the aggregators. They were also losing clients due to the inflated prices the ride-hailing apps were charging. In fact, the state government recently took note of overcharging by Ola and Uber and ordered them to stop operating 3-wheeler services in the city.

Reports suggest that Namma Yatri fares will be as per the government-fixed rates. A flat fare of Rs. 40 will be charged in a 2 km radius of metro stations, residences and offices, with an additional Rs. 10 as pick-up charges.

Peace Auto, another auto union is said to be working on a similar app called ‘Rook’.

How to use the Jio dongle in the Volkswagen Taigun for Wi-fi

Use the same mobile number that was used for the My Volkswagen Connect app to activate this app too.

BHPian Gokrish recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

How to use the Jio dongle in the Volkswagen Taigun:

I don’t know how many have been using the Jio dongle found in the Taigun for Wi-Fi connectivity.

However, for the uninitiated, the following are the steps to be followed to activate the same:

  • Install the JioMotive app from Play Store or App Store.
  • Use the same mobile number that was used for the My Volkswagen Connect app to activate this app too. If you are not using the My Volkswagen Connect app, then use the mobile number that was given to the dealer at the time of car registration. Once the JioMotive app is activated, the initial screen is displayed as shown below:

  • Select your name & vehicle number displayed at the top as indicated by the arrow above in point #2.

  • In the screen shown in point #3 above, select “Manage” under Wi-Fi settings.

  • Under “Manage Device”, switch on Wi-Fi. SSID and password details can be found on the screen. Use this credential for connecting car Wi-Fi.
  • No need to use the mobile hotspot to download apps or to listen to Gaana.

Saved my Jeep Compass from paint drops from 1,500 km away

While the app is still a mystery to me, coming from a 2011 Hyundai, it was fascinating.

BHPian Pancham recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

This Jeep Life app is still a mystery. Contrary to what my SA told me it seems the car does come with a SIM card with an active connection.

My society car cleaner Mintuji called me just now to let me know that painting work has started in my building and the car needs to be moved. Unless I want some fancy artwork in my car. (It's a brand new black Limited Option, btw).

So what is the problem? - The problem is that I am not in town and I will not be back till mid-Feb. And I did not leave the keys with anyone there. It took 10 milliseconds to imagine me flying down to move my car 100 feet to save it from the artwork. Doable.

But then, I had a car cover in the boot which I had purchased before leaving but I did not put it on before leaving for reasons 'known' to me (that story is for another post).

Seeing no option here, I swiftly opened the Jeep Life app, pressed the unlock button and guess what? the car sitting 1,500 km away unlocked in exactly 2 seconds. Well, coming from a 2011 Hyundai, this was really fascinating.

Mintuji took the cover out. Closed the boot. I pressed lock. He confirmed. Work done. Good job Jeep.

Here's what BHPian deltasierra had to say on the matter:

This must be the first post I'm seeing with someone praising the Jeep Life app.

But appreciation where it's due since it was able to help you out with quite a sticky situation.
