Ford Ecosport SE dealer dispatches commence

Due to the missing spare wheel, the crossover is likely to come equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and a puncture repair kit.

Ford is gearing up to launch a new variant of the Ecosport. Dubbed the SE trim, it will come without a tailgate mounted spare wheel.

Spy images suggest that this new variant will look similar to the export-spec Ecosport. Due to the missing spare wheel, the crossover is likely to come equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and a puncture repair kit. It is also likely to get a touchscreen infotainment system.

According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), M1 category vehicles seating up to 9 occupants and weighing less than 3.5 tonnes need not be sold with a spare wheel under certain conditions.

The Ecosport SE is likely to be offered with the same engine options as the regular model. These include the BS6 compliant 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine rated at 120 BHP and 149 Nm and the updated 1.5-litre diesel engine developing 99 BHP and 215 Nm. The petrol engine is offered with a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission while the diesel comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Ford 1.5L Diesel: ECU update solves excessive smoke issue

Ford 1.5L diesel engine's excessive smoke issue has an easy fix.

The Ford 1.5L diesel engine is said to emit excessive black smoke under heavy acceleration. It is a very common problem that most owners of the EcoSport diesel face. But, there seems to be an easy fix to this.

A 2019 Freestyle had a similar issue of excessive dense black smoke at over 2,000 rpm. The owner of the vehicle registered a complaint with Ford, following which the car was picked up by the local dealership.

The issue was resolved with just an ECU remap. The owner reports that there is visibly no smoke at moderate rpms. At engine speeds in excess of 3,000 rpm, less dense smoke was observed. The owner also noted that there was no trace of soot left on the garage door after accelerating.
