The car is now 2 years young and I couldn't have asked for a better companion in my journeys. The 2 year ownership period has been blissful, trouble-free and quite exhilarating to say the least. Every time I take the car out for a drive, I am impressed by its driving manners, delighted by its fuel economy and overjoyed by its power delivery. Though the pandemic has made sure the car has not run as much as it should have but nonetheless, 42k kms on the ODO is still quite good.
Current ODO reading:
It is due to this love for my car that I have decided to name it, something which I have never done for any of my earlier cars since I never felt so connected to any other car before. So, presenting to you all my "Azure".
The above pics were taken after a well deserved detailing session in March 2021 and the car still shines like new. Full marks here to Aquatint, Pune guys who have made me a detailing addict and for keeping my Azure in top shape.
Even after 42k, I have no significant issues to report. Only gripe being the brake pads had become hard and created creases on the brake disc due to which both pads and brake rotors were changed in the 40k service. Bills attached below.
The service costs have been very reasonable thus far and this was the most expensive service due to parts being replaced. I am pretty happy with the competent service guys too and my wallet too is happy! They also provide a vehicle report card after every service and I was surprised to find the tyre tread depths to be above 6 mm even after 40k kms. Barring the fact that I have one of the most problematic tyres ever due to their profile and brand, Bridgestone Ecopia, I am pretty happy with their overall performance and longevity. I have never had any tyres run more than 45k kms for me but these seem to be still going strong. I always get alignment and balancing checked at every 5k kms and never get it done from Ford ASS.
Azure has seen a lot of highways after the lifting of the first lockdown in 2020 and after my promotion at the job, my territories have expanded, which meant I needed to travel a lot more. Azure was at 20k kms in May 2020 and it is now at 42k in May 2021, but not all travel was work related.
In November 2020, me and wife traveled to my hometown for Diwali where a new garage member awaited to meet Azure. This was one major drive after the lockdown restrictions were lifted and we were both dying to meet our family. We planned to drive down since we were scared of taking any public transport like flights, trains, etc. The trip was planned well in advance and all safety precautions were followed during the trip since we were going to meet our elders and were worried that we might be carrying the virus. But nothing of the sort happened thankfully.
Meet the new stablemate of Azure, Honda City ZX MT 2020:
After driving the City for quite sometime and on highways during the trip, I fell in love with Azure more. The City does what it is designed to do, takes my father to his office daily and my parents to their shopping trips in utmost comfort and in a totally effortless manner, but highway is not its forte if you are planning on anything enthusiastic. The bouncy nature of the rear suspension of the City was quite noticeable when we had to take the same highway two days in a row for some personal work. Even my mom appreciated the suspension of Azure more on the highway. But, in the city and on potholed roads, Azure is decimated by the plushness offered by the City. Both have their own distinct characters and I love Azure's more (Yeah I'm biased ).
In January 2021, we decided to drive down to a friend's place in Ahmedabad since we had not met since quite long and it also presented us with an opportunity for a long drive. Also, it was fueled by the desire to check my buddy's new car which he had recently picked up, the Hyundai Venue SX CRDi. After waiting for 4 months for his booking of Kia Sonet and Kia not being able to deliver, he finally picked up its sibling. He did not go for EcoSport since I already had it and we wanted variety! We stayed at his home and did not even dare to go any place touristy and just visited my earlier usual hangout spots at Ahmedabad when I worked there earlier.
With the newly delivered Venue:
Azure munched the miles quite effortlessly and my wife slept most of the time during both onward and return journey while I enjoyed my music and beautiful, yet full of traffic, roads.
The trip was quite refreshing for both of us and little did we know the impending second wave of Covid-19 and its repercussions. I'm glad we made that trip since it looks like the only other road trip we will be able to take is again our diwali hometown trip only.
I wish everyone to be safe and pray that we get past this corona situation soon. I hope we can soon travel like in the pre-covid era and Azure munches more miles plastering a huge grin on my face while traversing the length and breadth of our beautiful country. Many travel plans are on hold due to the current situation and Azure and us haven't been able to undertake those and I pray we would be able to do so soon.

The 2021 Ford EcoSport was launched in January this year. As part of the update, a sunroof was offered as standard on the Titanium trim. Now, it seems that Ford is planning to update its Titanium S trim as well.
We have been told that the Titanium S variant is likely to get a few exterior changes including a reworked front bumper, LED daytime running lights placed below the headlights, LED tail lights and new alloy wheels.
Inside, the crossover could be offered with a new touchscreen infotainment system, details of which are still murky.
The Ford EcoSport comes with a choice of petrol or diesel engines. The BS6 compliant 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine produces 120 BHP and 149 Nm of torque and is paired with a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. The updated 1.5-litre diesel engine makes 99 BHP and 215 Nm and is offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Disclaimer: Try this mod at your own risk and if your car is out of warranty, please take a backup of all the modules before changing any setting.
Most of you will be aware of the most recent mod I had done (the cluster swap with Navigation enabled). That's just the trailer of a mod and the real picture comes into play now, i.e. Enabling Cruise control.
I travel a lot in my car and drive about 500-700 kms at a stretch during road trips. Little did I know that without that one button during long drives was going to play havoc with me. So I was casually telling my parents that let's exchange our car for a diesel S TDCi (I'm very addicted to the EcoSport as it offers the right balance of style, power, safety and economy. I'm waiting if another car from any brand can fill up the shoes of the EcoSport). As expected, the answer was a big NO! I had made one request to them that if we're keeping the car, I'll modify it as per my requirement and they said okay. They know that I know my stuff about cars, hence the confident yes.
Let's get to the main matter now:
I was researching across various global Ford forums to somehow find a way to enable Cruise control (Ford cars are one of the toughest to do mods as every module is interconnected and secure) and I did get in touch with some Russian, German and Brazilian folks who told me how the process needs to be done and what are the risks involved if the mod goes sideways.
I got to know that Ford has disabled Cruise Control in the PCM for Indian cars and it was enabled by default for overseas cars and I felt like I was stuck in a dead end. I tried enabling cruise control even in BCM and IPC, no luck. So I wanted to find out how to enable this in the PCM.
Then on researching more (this took months), I stumbled upon this application called As-built Explorer (link to download). This tool helps in decoding features by comparing as-built files of different VIN's but the twist is that everything is in hexadecimal format and it's tricky to identify the right block to make changes.
A person named Idumbakumar was a God send for me. At the right time, he helped me in decoding the correct value for the cruise control in the PCM.
Before I get into how I completed the installation of Cruise Control, these are the sites which gave me an idea about the mod potential of Ford cars:
UCDS forum (very useful website and their tool has immense capabilities).
Powermod (for any mod related to Sync 3 or remaps. Sadly they serve only in Europe though. They support almost all car brands across the Globe!)
The next step was to gather the hardware and some help in installing the switch. Naveen had already installed the ST-line steering in his EcoSport, so I went to his place and took his help so that I don't mess up anything by doing it all alone. Before we touch the hardware, we need to enable Cruise control in the PCM, BCM (it's given as cruise control in the BCM module) and IPC module (enable Adjustable Speed Limiter Device{ASLD}).
Module Names list:
Procuring the Cruise control switch is easy, however it's not recommended unless you have the 8-pin wiring harness (Ford does not sell the harness at all and AliBhai/eBay has stopped shipping to India) and the steering needs to be cut on the side for the Cruise control switch to fit properly. An easier route would be to take a steering wheel and harness from a totaled Titanium+ (2017 Nov-2019 Sep or AT model) or S. I went with the 1st option as Naveen had an extra harness with him.
Cruise Control part number:GN1Z9C888D is available on Boodmo
Cruise Control Switch
I called up Naveen (BHPian nkdev89) and asked him if I can come to his place to get the cruise control fixed, he readily agreed but he gave me a disclaimer saying that the wiring might differ and it may short some module. Then we sat and did an analysis of what are the modules which would be affected if things go wrong. So it boiled down to SCCM, GWM and IPC modules. I told him I'll go for it.
Wiring diagram
In case if you want only the wiring harness and if you're lucky enough to source it from abroad (go for the 8 pin one. I've posted this for reference).
The wiring harness:
Part number to be changed in SCCM:
We cross verified with the circuit diagram from Ford and then we did a test of the switch and wiring in Forscan. The wiring worked without shorting any circuit. I was overjoyed and now the tough part comes - to cut a bit of the steering. We kept on making iterations till the switch sat flush on the steering wheel. This took us almost an entire evening to get it right and oh boy! It worked.
The steering opened:
Cut portion of the steering. Need to drill a hole in the small black circle near the cut portion as the extra thread bolt will be seen which is used for locking the new switch in place:
Switch fitting flush:
Day and night difference after the mods. The cabin looks way more premium:
Another twist was that the PCM was not reading any value at all. I was like all the efforts went in vain. Then I contacted all the people whom I had approached earlier and they told me the issue was with the Forscan tool and send an email to the Forscan team.
After 2 days, the Forscan team sends me another version of Forscan and boom! Cruise control worked in my EcoSport.
Please note that neither of us are going to share the values over here as PCM data is sensitive to be shared.
A video of cruise control functioning in my car.
The speed limiter can be set from 30-150 km/h. Green color indicates that the function is active (applies to speed limiter also). If you accelerate hard beyond the locked speed, the speed limiter will turn off. The resume and cancel buttons are very handy. The best part about cruise control is that even if you accelerate for a quick overtake, the cruise control pauses momentarily and then goes back to the set speed. Long pressing on the Set+/- buttons changes the speed in increments or decrements of 10 km/h. Pressing the clutch or brake disengages cruise control.
The way the car lunges forward when the cruise control is engaged is that you get pushed back and the car pulls ahead clean and likewise while lowering the speed using cruise control, a good amount of engine braking is done.
Also, cruise control helps in improving fuel economy.
Total cost:
Cruise control switch(OEM): ₹600
Wiring harness:₹1,700
Total: ₹2300 and a feature unlocked. I wonder why Ford deleted cruise control in the Titanium+ MT between Oct 2019-present for a part which would cost less than 1000 for them through OEM suppliers. Another opportunity lost.
At the moment, only 2 EcoSport Facelift Titaniums in India have Cruise control and MID navigation (yours truly and Naveen's car).
Credits need to go to my parents, Naveen and Idumbakumar for making this happen.
Now for the bonus mods:(Requires ForScan)
1. For enabling Navigation in MID (might help folks who have 4" MID with Sync 3 V3.4)
Go to IPC module and enable the following:
2. Fog Lamps as cornering lamps
Go to BCM in Forscan and see the highlighted portion of the below image.
For Titanium+ and S, the right or left foglamp will light up if you turn the steering wheel to the respective direction.
For Titanium and lower variants, while using right/left indicator, the particular foglamp lights up.
However for both scenarios, headlight must be ON.
I'm sure Ford folks and FASS will be shocked! Now Ford is turning out to be a VW in terms of mods and that's a great thing. I sometimes wonder how these car accessories shops in Delhi add OEM features like cruise control and Auto AC in base models of Creta/Seltos/i20 without changing any module config or do they have tie ups with insiders in Hyundai dealerships?
Upcoming mods are hill assist (not sure if it's feasible, I'll need to research) and TPMS. Till then Ciao and stay safe people!

You know a car is competent when it sells in healthy numbers, despite being 8 years old and relatively premium-priced! Launched in 2013, Ford's EcoSport is still capable of selling 3,000 - 4,000 copies / month. Based on the company's global B-car platform (which also underpinned the Fiesta), the EcoSport has the characteristics of a typical Ford - solid construction, fun to drive nature, sorted suspension. Over the years, the car has also had some great engines and transmissions.

Excellent. Sold well for 8 years so there is ample choice in the market. As mentioned, go for the 1.5L Dragon 3-cylinder Petrol or 1.5L Diesel. Avoid the 1.0L EcoBoost and dual-clutch ATs. If you have the budget, look out for the 2017+ Facelift which gets a nicer dashboard, SYNC3, better headlamps, slightly softer ride etc. Check out the examples on sale - link.

I am looking to replace my 9+ year old Volkswagen Vento 1.6 TDI Highline diesel car. Due to the 10-year rule by NGT in Delhi NCR, I cannot use it beyond March 2022. I am looking at sub-4m SUVs due to a strict budget and currently looking at diesel option only, due to my monthly usage of approx 2,500 kms. After a lot of test drives and going to and fro across models, I finally shortlisted 2 options which work out for us - though both are a stretch for my budget.

My heart says - Ecosport but my family says Venue.
I need to finalise the vehicle in another 1-2 months max. Hence request forum members if they can help me. I will be driving the vehicle on my own and it will serve as my primary vehicle in my garage - the other being A-Star which is being used by my wife primarily. Thanks.
Here's what BHPian jigar1791@gmail had to say on the matter:
Ecosport anyday, for the lovely 1.5 TDCi pot.
Though old school, the engine is brilliant and relevant in today's world. You'd have a BIG smile on your face when you floor the EcoSport's pedal.
Venue is a very capable product in today's compact SUV/crossover crazy world, but EcoSport was, and still is, by far, the best sub 4m C-SUV India has on it's roads.
Here's what BHPian TrackDay had to say on the matter:
I expect a lot of members to vote for the EcoSport. Even I love that car. It feels robust and built to last.
My vote is for the EcoSport. I am not going to suggest other cars as it can only increase the confusion in this segment. Besides, you have shortlisted these two. This Ford is a well designed car that has stood the test of time in terms of design as well as build quality. I feel the car is built to go the distance.
Here's what BHPian ramki.grandhi had to say on the matter:
Looks like you have the budget, so look for Nexon as well. Give a test drive, its an amazing choice next to EcoSport.
Out of EcoSport and Venue, EcoSport is a far better choice. Venue won't even come closer w.r.t. safety kit and driving dynamics.
Here's what GTO had to say on the matter:
I would pick the EcoSport as well. Says a lot about how competent this product is, when it's a whopping 8 years old and still winning polls against younger competition. But that diesel + build + road manners + driving pleasure make it a no-brainer choice. Especially for a Vento owner who is used to the "European" build & feel.
Of course, if it was the turbo-petrol or AT, then the Venue makes for a compelling choice. But diesel = EcoSport.

Now, according to a media report, the price of the Ford EcoSport SE will be announced by March 10, 2021. This news comes just after the company released a Bollywood themed teaser for the vehicle yesterday.
As mentioned earlier, the Ford EcoSport SE will not get a tailgate mounted spare wheel, which is in line with the EcoSport sold in global markets. In fact, the report claims that the SE will not get a spare wheel at all when it leaves the factory. Instead, it will get a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and a puncture repair kit. The car's rear number plate will be housed on the tailgate instead of the bumper. The bumper, in turn, will sport a silver skid plate.

According to the caption for the teaser image posted by Ford India on Twitter, the SE variant is likely to be similar to the S variant that is on sale at the moment, except for a few cosmetic changes. Ford says that it is an EcoSport S in a different avatar.
The SE variant looks similar to the export-spec EcoSport. It will come without a tailgate-mounted spare wheel. It is also likely to come with a silver rear skid plate, a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and a puncture repair kit.
