Tata Motors' Lucknow plant builds 9,00,000th vehicle

Tata Motors' Lucknow factory was set up in 1992.

Tata Motors has announced a new production milestone as the 9,00,000th vehicle rolled out of its Lucknow facility. 

Tata’s Lucknow plant is spread across 600 acres. It has been recognised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) as a water-positive plant. The facility also houses a 6 MW solar power plant.

The Lucknow facility was set up in 1992. Over the years, the factory has produced cargo and passenger commercial vehicles, light, intermediate, medium and heavy commercial vehicles, as well as electric and fuel cell electric buses. 

The Lucknow plant houses ultra-modern vehicle manufacturing stations such as a robotic paint booth and body-in-white shop featuring robotic spot welding. Presently, women constitute one-third of the technical workforce.

Kia Sonet: 4 lakh sales up in under 44 months

Sales of the 7-speed DCT version of the Sonet have grown by 37.50% since its launch in 2020.

Kia Sonet sales have surpassed the 4 lakh unit mark. The carmaker achieved the new milestone in just under 44 months. 3,17,754 units of the Sonet were sold in the domestic market, while an additional 85,814 units were exported.

According to Kia, 63% of customers opted for the variants equipped with a sunroof. The majority of customers chose the petrol version (63%), while 37% of the customers opted for the diesel.

The sales figures also reflect consumer preference shifting towards automatic variants. Sales of the 7-speed DCT version of the Sonet have grown by 37.50% since its launch in 2020. Overall, automatic transmissions, which include the 7-speed DCT and 6-speed AT, contribute 28%, while the iMT makes up 23% of the total sales of the Sonet.

Recently, Kia introduced new entry and mid variants of the Sonet. The compact SUV is now available in four new HTE (O) and HTK (O) variants in Diesel and Petrol engine options. While the HTE(O) gets a sunroof, HTK(O) offers a sunroof along with LED Connected Taillamps, Fully Automatic Temperature Control (FATC) and Rear Defogger.

Maruti Suzuki achieves 3 crore production milestone in record time

Maruti Suzuki began producing vehicles in India in December 1983, with the iconic M800.

Maruti Suzuki has announced a new production milestone. The carmaker has produced 3 crore vehicles in a record time of 40 years and 4 months.

Maruti Suzuki began producing vehicles in India in December 1983, with the iconic M800. The company’s Haryana-based facilities have produced 2.68 crore cars to date and more than 32 lakh vehicles have rolled off the Suzuki Motor Gujarat facility.

Models like the Alto 800, Alto K10, Swift, WagonR, Dzire, Omni, Baleno, Eeco, Brezza and Ertiga make up the majority of the cars manufactured by Maruti Suzuki in India. The company has built 29 lakh units of the iconic M800.

Marut Suzuki has been exporting vehicles manufactured in India to overseas markets since 1987. Today, the company contributes nearly 40% of the total vehicle exports from India.

Mr Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “Today India is world’s third largest passenger vehicle market and poised to grow stronger in coming years. To fulfil customer demand and aspirations, we plan to invest further and increase our annual production capacity to 4 million units by FY 2030-31. Working towards this, we will set up two new green field manufacturing plants of 10 lakh capacity each at Kharkhoda-Haryana and Gujarat. We will also enhance our range of models from present 18 to 28 by FY 2030-31.”

Honda achieves 6 crore 2-wheeler sales in India

In April 2017, Honda celebrated the 3 crore sales milestone and it gained the next 3 crore customers in under 7 years.

The Activa is Honda’s best-selling model in India. The company also offers the Activa 125, Dio and Dio 125 scooters.

Honda’s bike line-up includes the CB200X, Hornet, SP160, Unicorn, SP125, Shine 125, Livo, CD110 Deluxe and Shine 100.

BYD Seal clocks 500 bookings in less than a month

The BYD Seal is available in three variants – Dynamic, Premium and Performance, with prices starting at Rs 41 lakh.

BYD has announced that it has received over 500 bookings for the Seal EV in less than a month. The electric sedan was launched on March 5, 2024.

Sanjay Gopalakrishnan, Senior Vice President of Electric Passenger Vehicle Business, BYD India, said, “We are confident of our product, of our pricing and are pleased to see the response it has generated in the market. We did hit the 200 bookings mark soon after launch, and within 15 days, we have registered 500 bookings.”

The BYD Seal is available in three variants – Dynamic, Premium and Performance, with prices starting at Rs 41 lakh (ex-showroom). It shares its underpinnings with the Atto 3 electric SUV.

The Seal comes with single and dual-motor configurations. The base Dynamic trim uses a 61.44 kWh battery pack that powers a 201 BHP electric motor. It has a claimed range of 510 km. 

The Premium variant uses an 82.56 kWh battery offering 650 km of range. The electric motor has an output of 308 BHP and 360 Nm. 

The top-spec Performance trim gets an 82.56 kWh battery that powers two electric motors. It has 523 BHP and 670 Nm and offers a range of 580 km on a single charge.

Maruti Suzuki Subscribe celebrates milestone of 10,000 customers

Models like the Brezza, Baleno, Grand Vitara and Ertiga account for over 53% of the overall subscriptions.

Maruti Suzuki Subscribe has achieved a new milestone of 10,000 new car subscription sales since its inception in July 2020.

Maruti Suzuki Subscribe is a subscription service that offers customers the convenience of driving a brand-new car without the burden of ownership, including insurance, maintenance, and other associated costs. The service added 5,000 new customers in the current financial year and registered a growth of 44% in FY2023-24 over the previous fiscal.

According to the company, more than 65% of the subscriptions were from users opting for a tenure period of 3-4 years. A majority of Maruti Suzuki Subscribe customers are from Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore. Models like the Brezza, Baleno, Grand Vitara and Ertiga account for over 53% of the overall subscriptions.

Customers can choose tenures from 1 to 5 years at a fixed monthly rental, decided as per the vehicle running options ranging from 10,000 km to 25,000 km of annual usage. The monthly rentals include vehicle price, registration & RTO expenses, insurance (new & renewal), service & maintenance, and roadside assistance.

Tata Motors rolls out 1 millionth car from its Sanand plant

Tata Motors is celebrating the rollout of the 1 millionth car from its Sanand plant.

Tata’s Sanand plant was established in 2010. The facility is spread over 1,100 acres and includes a Vendor Park spread over 359 acres and employs over 6,000 people. The plant houses a press line, a weld shop, a paint shop, an assembly line and a powertrain shop. 

Tata’s Sanand factory houses a flexible assembly line. Models like the Tiago, Tiago.ev, Tiago iCNG, Tigor, Tigor EV, Tigor iCNG and XPRES-T EV are manufactured here.

Kia sells over 4,00,000 cars with Connected Car Tech in India

57% of Seltos buyers opted for variants that offered connected car features.

Kia India has achieved a new sales milestone. The carmaker has sold over 4,00,000 vehicles equipped with connected car features in India.

Connected car features are only available on the top variants, which account for 44% of the brand’s overall sales in India. At 65%, the Seltos makes up the majority of the sales.

According to Kia, 57% of Seltos buyers opted for variants that offered connected car features. Variants equipped with connected car tech make up 31% of the Carens sales, while 21% of Sonet buyers opted for these features.

The connected car features offered on Kia cars include Hinglish commands, Remote Window  Control, Remote Engine, AC start and Valet mode.

Suzuki Motorcycle India built 1 million 2-wheelers in FY2023-24

The 1 millionth unit to roll off the assembly line at Kherki Dhaula in Gurgaon was a Suzuki Access.

Suzuki Motorcycle India achieved a new production milestone in FY2023-24. The 2-wheeler manufacturer produced 1 million units during the fiscal year. This milestone marks the full utilization of the plant’s annual production capacity in less than a year.

The 1 millionth unit to roll off the assembly line at Kherki Dhaula in Gurgaon was a Suzuki Access.

Rajneesh Kumar Mehta, Executive Vice President, Production, Suzuki Motorcycle India, said, “In order to keep up with the consistently increasing demand for Suzuki Two-Wheelers both from the domestic market and our overseas markets, we have gone beyond our original installed capacity of 1 Million Units per year.”

Suzuki currently offers a wide range of products in India. These include scooters like the Access 125, Avenis, and Burgman Street, while its motorcycle range includes the Gixxer, Gixxer SF and V-Strom SX.

Toyota Innova Hycross sales cross the 50,000 mark

Toyota has sold over 2.3 million vehicles in India.

Toyota has announced that the cumulative sales of the Innova Hycross have crossed the 50,000 unit mark in India.

The Innova Hycross was launched in November 2022. It is based on the TNGA platform and is available with pure petrol and strong-hybrid powertrains. The 2.0-litre petrol puts out 172 BHP and 197 Nm. The strong-hybrid version also uses a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine paired with Toyota’s 5th-gen strong-hybrid tech for a combined output of 183 BHP.

The Innova Hycross is available in six variants with prices starting at Rs 18.92 lakh (ex-showroom). The MPV comes in either a 7-seat or 8-seat configuration and is equipped with a semi-digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system, ventilated front seats and dual-zone automatic climate control; among other features.

Toyota has sold over 2.3 million vehicles in India, starting with the Qualis. Today, the brand offers a wide range of products, including the Glanza hatchback, Urban Cruiser Hyryder compact SUV, Innova Crysta, Fortuner and the Hilux.
