Ather Energy crosses 2 lakh unit production milestone

Ather currently offers two models – the 450X and 450S, with prices starting from Rs 1.30 lakh.

Ather Energy has achieved a new production milestone as the 2,00,000th electric scooter rolled off its assembly line.

Tarun Mehta, CEO of Ather Energy, took to X (formerly Twitter) to make the announcement, highlighting the fact that the company had crossed the 1 lakh unit milestone at the beginning of 2023 and is closing the year with the rollout of the 2,00,000th e-scooter.

Ather currently offers two models – the 450X and 450S. The latter is the more affordable of the two, offered at a price of Rs 1.30 lakh. The company is now gearing up to launch a high-performance version called the 450 Apex.

The 450X is available with two battery options – 2.9 kWh and 3.7 kWh, with a certified range of 111 km and 150 km, respectively. The 450S has a certified range of 115 km on a single charge. The upcoming 450 Apex is expected to be more sprightly with better acceleration and a higher top speed.

Maruti Brezza sales zoom past the 1 million mark

The Maruti Brezza has now overtaken the Tata Nexon to become the best-selling SUV in FY2024.

Maruti Suzuki has reached yet another sales milestone, with Brezza sales crossing the 1 million mark in India.

The first-generation Vitara Brezza was launched in March 2016. In 2022, the carmaker introduced the latest iteration and rebranded it as the Brezza. Maruti sells around 13,000-15,000 units of the compact SUV each month.

The Brezza is available in four variants, with prices starting at Rs 8.29 lakh (ex-showroom). It is powered by a 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine that makes 102 BHP and 137 Nm and is paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. It is also available with a CNG option.

The Maruti Brezza has now overtaken the Tata Nexon to become the best-selling SUV in FY2024.

Honda sells 20,000 Elevate SUVs in 100 days

The Honda Elevate was launched in September at a starting price of Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom).

Honda claims to have sold over 20,000 units of the Elevate SUV within 100 days of its official launch.

According to the company, the Elevate accounted for over 50% of its total sales during the last 3 months. The September-November period saw sales grow by 11% compared to the previous year.

Honda sold 11,891 cars in November 2023. These included 8,730 domestic sales, while 3,161 units were exported. That's a 24% increase in domestic sales and 335% growth in exports compared to the previous year.

The Honda Elevate was launched in September at a starting price of Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom). The mid-size SUV is offered with a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine producing 119 BHP @ 6,600 rpm and 145 Nm @ 4,300 rpm. It is mated with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed CVT. 

The Honda Elevate competes with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and Maruti Grand Vitara, among others.

Suzuki Motor Gujarat achieves 3 million production milestone

Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming battery electric vehicles will also be manufactured at this facility starting FY2024-25.

Suzuki Motor Gujarat (SMG), a wholly owned subsidiary of Maruti Suzuki, has achieved the production milestone of 3 million units. 

SMG commenced operations in February 2017. The milestone has been achieved within a span of around 6 years and 11 months, making it the fastest to manufacture 3 million units across all Suzuki-run facilities. According to the company, the last 1 million units were manufactured in just about 17 months. 

SMG has an annual production capacity of 7.5 lakh units. At present, the facility manufactures models like the Swift, Baleno, Dzire and Fronx. Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming battery electric vehicles will also be manufactured at this facility starting FY2024-25.

Recently, the Maruti Suzuki Board of Directors approved the acquisition of Suzuki Motor Gujarat from Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC), Japan. Suzuki Motor Gujarat, previously a wholly owned subsidiary of SMC, is now under Maruti Suzuki ownership.

Kia Carens sales cross the 1 lakh unit milestone

The Kia Carens is available in six variants, including the recently launched X-Line trim.

Kia India has achieved a new sales milestone as sales of the Carens surpassed the 1 lakh unit mark.

The Kia Carens was introduced in the country in February last year. It is available in six variants, including the recently launched X-Line trim.

The Kia Carens is available with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 113 BHP and 144 Nm, which is paired with a 6-speed manual and a 1.5-litre diesel engine that puts out 113 BHP and 250 Nm and is offered with a choice of a 6-speed iMT and 6-speed automatic.

In 2023, Kia added the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine to the Carens line-up. It makes 158 BHP and 253 Nm and is paired with either a 6-speed iMT or a 7-speed DCT.

Earlier this month, Kia rolled out the Carens X-Line at a starting price of Rs 18.95 lakh (ex-showroom). It features a Matte Graphite exterior and is available with a choice of 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines.

TVS iQube e-scooter sales cross the 2 lakh unit mark

The TVS iQube competes with the Bajaj Chetak, Ola S1 and Ather 450X in the e-scooter segment.

TVS claims to have sold over 2 lakh units of the iQube electric scooter in India, becoming the first legacy brand to achieve this milestone.

It took more than 3 years for TVS to achieve 1 lakh unit sales of the iQube e-scooter. However, the next 1 lakh units were sold in just 10 months. Moreover, TVS sold 96,561 e-scooters in the first six months of the current fiscal alone. 

The TVS iQube is available in two variants: standard and S, priced at Rs 1.24 lakh and Rs 1.39 lakh (on-road price inclusive of FAME-II subsidy), respectively.

The iQube uses a lithium-ion battery pack. It powers a hub-mounted electric motor that has an output of 6 BHP. The iQube and iQube S variants have a claimed top speed of 78 km/h and can cover 140 km on a single charge.

Among legacy players, the Bajaj Chetak is the iQube's main rival. It also competes with EV startups like Ola Electric and Ather Energy.

Maruti Grand Vitara clocks 1 lakh unit sales in less than a year

The Grand Vitara shares its underpinnings with the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder.

Maruti Suzuki has sold over 1 lakh units of the Grand Vitara in less than a year. This makes it the fastest in the midsize SUV segment to reach this milestone.

The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara was launched in September last year. The SUV is available in six variants with prices starting at Rs 10.70 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Grand Vitara is based on Suzuki's TECT platform (Global C) and is available with two engine options. The first is the familiar 1.5-litre mild-hybrid powertrain. It produces 102 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 136.8 Nm @ 4,400 rpm. This engine is paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. The all-wheel-drive variant comes with a 5-speed manual transmission.

The second engine option is the 1.5-litre 3-cylinder petrol strong-hybrid that puts out 91 BHP @ 5,500 rpm and 122 Nm @ 4,400-4,800 rpm. This petrol engine is coupled with an AC synchronous motor that puts out 79 BHP and 141 Nm. The total combined output at the wheel is 114 BHP. This engine is available with a CVT.

The Grand Vitara shares its underpinnings with the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire achieves 25 lakh sales milestone

The Maruti Suzuki Dzire has a market share of 50% in its segment.

The Maruti Suzuki Dzire has become the highest-selling sedan in India, with over 25 lakh units sold and a market share of 50% in its segment.

In 2008, Maruti Suzuki launched the Dzire in India. In FY2009-10, sales crossed the 1 lakh unit mark. The 5 lakh sales milestone was achieved in FY2012-13. Sales doubled in FY2015-16, and by FY2019-20, Maruti had sold over 20 lakh Dzires.

The Maruti Dzire is currently offered with a 1.2-litre petrol engine that makes 89 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm @ 4,400 rpm. The engine is mated with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT.

The Dzire is also available with a factory-fitted CNG kit. The CNG version packs 76 BHP, while peak torque is rated at 98.5 Nm @ 4,300 rpm. It is offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

In terms of features, the Dzire comes equipped with LED projector headlamps, cruise control, auto folding ORVMs, and Maruti's SmartPlay Studio infotainment system.

Jeep Wrangler global sales cross 50 lakh unit milestone

In India, the Jeep Wrangler is available in Unlimited and Rubicon trims.

The Jeep Wrangler has achieved a new global sales milestone. The carmaker recently announced the sale of the 50,00,000th unit, a 2023 Wrangler Rubicon 4xe 20th Anniversary Edition, which was bought by a customer in Camden, New Jersey.

The Jeep Wrangler made its debut at the 1986 Chicago Auto Show, replacing the Jeep CJ. The first generation (YJ) went into production 37 years ago at the American Motors Corporation factory. Jeep sold 6,30,000 units of the YJ between 1987 and 1995.

The TJ was introduced in 1996, followed by the JK in 2006 and JL in 2017. The current generation comes with two engine options: a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder and a 4.2-litre 6-cylinder.

In India, the Jeep Wrangler is available in Unlimited and Rubicon trims. It is offered with the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

Maruti celebrates 6 years of Arena with over 7 million sales

Maruti Suzuki Arena currently offers 9 models - Alto k10, S-Presso, WagonR, Celerio, Swift, Dzire, Brezza, Ertiga and Eeco.

Maruti Suzuki is celebrating the 6th anniversary of its Arena retail channel.

Maruti Suzuki Arena set up its first showroom in 2017. Since then, the Arena network has expanded to 2,850 outlets across 2,392 cities. To date, over 7.05 million vehicles have been sold through Arena dealerships.

According to the company, Arena's standalone market share in FY2023-24 till July 2023 was over 29% and has contributed to 68% of overall Maruti Suzuki sales.

Maruti Suzuki Arena currently offers 9 models. These include the Alto k10, S-Presso, WagonR, Celerio, Swift, Dzire, Brezza, Ertiga and Eeco. Other models like the Ignis, Baleno, Ciaz, XL6, Fronx, Jimny, Grand Vitara and Invicto are sold via the Nexa retail channel.
