South America: Jeep Renegade facelift spied

The Jeep Renegade made its public debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show and is now due for its first mid-life facelift. A couple of camouflaged test mules of the Renegade facelift have recently been spotted in South America.

The spy images indicate that the 2019 Renegade will retain the boxy proportions of the original. That said, it will receive a refreshed front end along with a restyled rear fascia. It appears to have round headlights and turn signals, much like the outgoing version. It might feature a redesigned 7-slat grille in the front. Besides this, changes to the rear mainly focus around the tail lamp cluster. The Renegade's chunky bumpers and squared-off wheel arches have been carried over.

There are no mechanical changes expected in this facelift. The Renegade facelift is expected to be powered by the same set of engines as before, including the 1.4-litre turbo, 1.6-litre, 2.0-litre and 2.4-litre petrol engines along with the 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre turbo diesels. It is available in both two and four-wheel drive configurations with a choice of manual or automatic gearboxes.

Test mules of the pre-facelift Renegade have been spotted in India previously. In India, the SUV is likely to be offered with a 1.4-litre, turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.0-litre diesel. The base variants are likely to be front-wheel drive, while more expensive variants could get all-wheel drive as standard. The SUV will be built at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' (FCA) Ranjangaon plant, alongside the Compass.

The Jeep Renegade has been spotted yet again. While, the exterior is still wrapped in camouflage, the new spy images reveal details of the car's interior.

The interior of the test mule features a black dashboard with silver inserts and dual-tone fabric upholstery for the seats. It is rumoured that leather seats could be offered as an option. The door pads have a black and beige theme and appear to sport silver door handles along with silver and gloss black inserts. The centre fascia consists of an infotainment display and climate control system. The car also gets a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel.

This test mule is equipped with a manual gearbox. That said, it does have an electronic parking brake, which is available in the Jeep Compass. According to media reports, the Renegade is likely to be offered with Fiat's MultiJet 1.6-litre diesel or the 2.0-litre diesel from the Compass in a lower state of tune. A four-wheel drive version of the car could also be on cards.

The Renegade sports a boxy styling. The front end gets Jeep's signature 7-slat grille flanked on either side by round headlights. The front bumper looks chunky and houses fog lamps and indicators.

The Renegade will be the fourth model in Jeep's India line-up. It will also be the brand's entry-level model and is expected to compete with the likes of Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster.

Rumour: Jeep Renegade in pipeline for the Indian market

The Jeep Renegade has been spotted multiple times while testing on public roads in India. However, whether or not the American automaker will launch it in the country was something that wasn't known yet. Some speculations even suggested that the Renegade's test mules were actually being used only for component testing. However, recent media reports now suggest that Jeep is planning to launch the Renegade in India by the end of next year or in early 2019.

If the rumours do come out to be true, the Renegade will become Jeep's most affordable vehicle in India. The company currently sells the Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee in the country, while the Compass has also been revealed recently and will be launched in the coming months. The Renegade will thus be placed below the Compass and is expected to compete against the likes of the Hyundai Creta.

The Renegade will most probably be assembled locally at FCA's Ranjangaon production facility. Since Jeep has already localized the 1.4-litre petrol and 2.0-litre diesel engines for the Compass, it might use the same engines in the Renegade as well, though in a slightly lower state of tune. Jeep might also use Fiat's 1.6-litre MultiJet diesel unit for the Renegade, which is the same unit that powers the S-Cross 1.6. It will also likely be offered with four-wheel drive setup on select variants.

Rumour: Jeep India launch scheduled for August 2016

If reports doing rounds on the Internet are to be believed, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has finally decided to introduce the Jeep brand in India. Jeep will reportedly start its Indian operations on a later date in August 2016.

The American SUV maker will initially introduce the Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee, while other products will follow in the coming months. Jeep recently revealed specifications of the Grand Cherokee on its Indian website. It will be offered in three trim levels: Limited, Summit, and SRT.

The other product that will be introduced with Jeep's Indian entry would be the Wrangler. Jeep has officially confirmed that India would get only the five-door Wrangler, a decision taken to offer the more practical version.

The speculated replacement of the Jeep Compass, which is currently codenamed as the C-SUV, will also launch in India in the course of the next few years. Jeep also appears to be planning to launch the Renegade in India, going by its recent spy shots.
