Nitrous was definitely the 'star' and my favorite vehicle was Condor's Sumo. The 'Star Performer' award goes to 'Pho3nix' , in my opinion, for without him there wouldn't have been some post hangover excitement. In this set of photos, highlights of the hotel we stayed at, some images of Pondicherry and the French restaurant a few of us had lunch at before driving back to Chennai.

Meeting report part-4 :

The drinking session continues. Guys are talking in small groups. Everyone is having fun, which is what was the intention.

The TVMS owner, shekaran, headers and john.

nitrous and phoenix

nitrous seems to be saying, "I am tired of all this Gypsy talk".

The beach-babe hits the bed. LOL.
The "Rendez-vouz at Pondichery" meet. Giving time a break.-dsc01380.jpg

After a little scare that phoenix gives us by going to sleep in the bathroom, everyone is ready to hit the bed. But then, he was just going by the thread tagline and giving "time a break" in the loo.

Sunday 31-Aug-2008 :
I wake up at 7:30AM with what else but a mad hangover (that is to last me till evening). Freshen up and go to john's room where they have already ordered breakfast. The sambar is watery, but at that time I would eat anything. Finish off a couple of idlis, a vada and also nitrous' breakfast (a nice crispy dosa). Yummy. Sorry, nitrous.

Some of the Bangy guys drop in and plans are discussed as to what to do next.
The "Rendez-vouz at Pondichery" meet. Giving time a break.-dsc01384.jpg

Some decide to drive into town. We (me, nitrous, nick, john & headers) decide to visit the workshop of TVMS and drive 30kms to Cuddalore.

But before that, everyone heads to the petrol bunk to tank up. The digital display of a dispensing machine would not have looked as sweet as it looks at Pondy. Rs48.1 per litre, as compared to Rs55.07 in Chennai - a saving of Rs7 per litre. Everyone tanks up, including Bangy guys.
The "Rendez-vouz at Pondichery" meet. Giving time a break.-dsc01391.jpg

And then we see this auto (TN-regd) being fuelled up.
The "Rendez-vouz at Pondichery" meet. Giving time a break.-dsc01388.jpg
The guys have it inclined - to take in that extra litre.

Meeting report part-5 :

We drive into Cuddalore and with quite some help from Shekaran (via phone), reach the workshop of TVMS, which is mainly for bus bodybuilding, but he also pursues his hobby of modding (mostly external appearance) vehicles here. His grand home is just behind the workshop.

1) A gypsy undergoing modification.

2) The rear of the Gypsy.

4) The Green Jeep. I forget the name - Morris or whatever - not into vintages, but I liked this Jeep.
The "Rendez-vouz at Pondichery" meet. Giving time a break.-dsc01409.jpg

5) The Jeep has social messages on almost all sides. This one on the axe.

6) The side profile - the owner/modder and headers can be seen in pic.

TVMS continued :

Our man has a fascination for vintages, elephants and horses. A very unassuming person, but very creative and with lots of ideas. A Sumo looking like a horse might not appeal to many here, but I understand from vikram/john that quite some effort is required in the paint job.

10) One of the many liquor shops in Pondy.
The "Rendez-vouz at Pondichery" meet. Giving time a break.-dsc01455.jpg
Most of them are so neat with incredibly posh and well arranged displays etc. Compare that to the pathetic shops that pass for liquor shops in Chennai.

Lunch done, we bid goodbye to Shekaran and drive to the resort. A huge confusion awaits us at checkout - some room service bills are unaccounted for. We break our heads for sometime before it is resolved. All dues paid and cleared up, we say our goodbyes to condor and his BIL and are off in the Esteem.

vikram, nick and john left some 15 mins before us. nitrous is sticking to his usual speed limit of 120kmph max. Before we reach the toll gate at Uthandi, john calls us to inform that there is a speed trap after the toll gate and to slow down to the legal limit of 40kmph.

nitrous slows down to 40kmph and man, it was so slow and painful. We drive like that for a few kms, but no speed trap. We almost think that the guys had played a prank on us.

And then around a corner, we see a posse of cops, speed guns and all. But we are crawling along at 40kmph. One of the cops looks at us and can't help laughing, which is reciprocated by phoenix.

nitrous drops phoenix & vijay at Tiruvanmiyur and me at Choolaimedu and drives home and a beautiful weekend comes to a close.

THE END.

ranjit, I was thinking of an yercaud meet - Bangy + Chennai guys. For us it is like 330kms, but am not sure how far it is for Bangy guys. Maybe Cochin boys can also join - must be like 350kms from Cochin.

Something on the lines of either of these 2 options :

1) 2-nights + 1 day : Leave Chennai/Bangy on Friday post-lunch, reach yercaud by 9PM or so. Stay there for Sat and Sunday. Checkout Sunday noon and drive back to Bangy/Chennai.

2) 1 night + 1 day : Leave Saturday early morning, reach Yercaud by noon. Stay there till Sunday noon and drive back to Bangy/Chennai.

We have some nice and economical options for stay in Yercaud. Hotel Shevaroys is one such hotel. Am sure you would come just for the 6-7 hour drive.

Bangalore to Yercaud - 215 kms

Cochin - Yercaud - 365 kms

Cheenai - Yercaud - 325 kms

Sounds good to me. I am in

Cheers,
