As per resources available on the net, converting to a manual pump is no big deal. There is a loss of about 5 bhp from electronic to manual pump.
The vehicle I drove was a Nissan 1 tonne with a 6BT, not a 4BT (Sorry). The engine was very loud and vibrations were horrible. Even if we do manage to suppress the vibrations with better engine beds, I don't think the engine (even in 4BT form) will be suitable in a daily personal use vehicle. I must have been off my rockers to consider it.

True, the 6BT engine used here is India is not very suitable for personal vehicles and not exactly the best for intercity buses either.

That is one of the major fallacies of Tata buses. Take up any of the slightly older Tata buses, and feel how much she vibrates at idle. Modern ones have bit better damping, but still nothing like the Leyland Hino engines.

The 6BT has much better torque than the Leyland Hino engines. For example, if we compare the 180hp variants of the Hino and 6BT, the Cummins gives you 120Nm more of peak torque. But it is one big pile driver of an engine. Definitely not something you would want to put in a vehicle which you plan to use on a daily basis.

Though I dont know whether the same will be carried forward to the 4BT. But that is difficult to test out as you can rarely find any automobile with a 4BT engine in India.

If you are planning to use this regularly as a daily vehicle, it should definitely not be on the top of your list. But as a specific only for 4x4 outings kind of thing, it should easily provide you with the most power and torque for the weight of the engine.

Now that the 4BT is off the list, and going by what you are saying, would you suggest I still consider the 4 cylinder Hino?

Definitely you should. The only reason not to would probably be that you wont get one which are likely to meet your 125bhp, 350Nm mark from a used engine.

I am not too sure, but I think only the latest BS3 Hino 4cylinders will meet that mark. If you can get one of these 2nd hand, it should be ideal for your purpose.

Hey no offense man, but how do you know so much about all these engines, and your profile says "Student"! Good for you man!

Hey Frankenstein. I've seen this car at the Hyderabad Auto Show. How much is it up for and where can i see the car?

I came across another Willy's Wagon this morning at a scrap yard. It seems the owner gave it away as scrap. I plan on buying and restoring it. Let me see if i can post a few pictures while i'm at it.

Finally managed to get those pictures. Hope to see this coming back to life again!! :thumbs up

Sorry for the late reply. That is not my vehicle. My project is pending because the vehicle itself has not come into my possession. Anyway, I am getting the powertrain ready. The engine is going to be a turbocharged Toyota 14B.
I have sourced a Toyota 4Wd gearbox. This gear box bell housing has the same bolt pattern as the 14B 2wd gearbox bellhousing. The clutch fork mounting area alone has to be ground a bit.
I would like help in identifying this Toyota gearbox and also some info as to what the shift pattern for the transfer case is. Also someone please tell me what the motor assembly thingamajig behind the transfer case is. (its a manual shift transfer case by the way)

More pics of the GBox and engine.

Some more engine pics!

Positioning the power train.
The right side wing of the oil pan needs to be trimmed to avoid fouling with the front diff pumkin.
