Do you guys have any idea as to who else make the Italian Hard Top?
I would have happily ordered the original one but the increasing dollar rates and custom problems are making me put that thought aside.

However the Hard-Top manufacturing should meet the below criteria:
1.The Hard-Top should made only in frp and not metal or cloth.
2.It can be disassembled into parts which can be transported to Mumbai.
3.I should not be the first person for whom the Hard-top is made,
the main intention of this criteria is to avoid myself from becoming a test- mule.

Hope to hear from you guys soon.
Thanks.
dean5545...I had visited Sana Motors in Thane and saw the hard top from close. Infact drove one of those at the Mahindra Igatpuri facility as well. I wasn't too impressed with the finish and the overall fitting of the hard top. Eventually ended up buying from Mars Auto in Hyderabad and I've been very happy with the decision despite the 1500 km journey involved to buy it. So would suggest to avoid Sana Motors if you can. HHT meets all the above requirements that you have and then there is a big factor of Prabhu, the proprietor, who is very helpful and great to deal with.
One big factor for any HT is the sealing between different parts and the insulation. Did not think it was great in SM but is excellent for HHT.

Hey Redherring,
Thanks alot for your valuable inputs.
Coming to the Hard-Top :
The Thar in question belongs to a friend of mine, but I'm in charge of the mods.
The HHT is still no.1 on my list mainly because of the practicality it offers.
It may not have the road presence of the Italian counterpart. But my friend is crazy about the Italian hard -top design, hence the replica.
Since you say that Sana Motors are not good I will take your word for it.
Thanks.

Re: The most practical & best looking Hardtop - Mahindra Thar

Guys, I have seen the replica italian top from Pune. It is just not worth it. The fit and finish and quality is really poor. I had a few pictures when it was being installed in a jeep.

I feel the Hyderabad one is much better. If you can wait, there will be one coming out of Coimbatore in a couple of weeks.

Re: The most practical & best looking Hardtop - Mahindra Thar

What about the hard top provided by Mahindra customization? Has anyone inspected them closely to give an opinion about it? I have seen it on a couple of Thars in Pune. But since they were on the move, could not get a closer look.

So this will convert Thar into a practical 2-seater right?

Re: The most practical & best looking Hardtop - Mahindra Thar

In the below mentioned thread, Mod Samurai's friend Mr. Sachin Karkera, has installed a metal hardtop on his MM 550. By the looks of it, it seems to have a very good finish & good quality of workmanship!!

Check out the pics:-

I did ask about the price of the hardtop but, Samurai had not got the costing until then. I'm sure he can shed some more light on it now.

Regards,
Varun

What are the disadvantages of having a metal Hard-Top other than the cost?

I voted for the Hyderabad hard top. The removable covers add a lot of flexibility, can get close to the open Jeep feel without being too exposed to the weather.

At Sakleshpur MGE last month, it got mistaken for Thar CDRe more than a few times. I still don't know the price.

The only disadvantage I can see is, it can't be removable unless you make some nice design which will be bolt on and can be opened easily.

Re: The most practical & best looking Hardtop - Mahindra Thar

Hi. IMO the best hard top is the one which can keep the heat away, doesn't show signs of cracking in extreme temps both summers and winters and doesn't leak when it pours. Now saying that i would like to request all Thar owners who have installed the hard tops to kindly give their feedback on the reliability of their hard tops.

Re: The most practical & best looking Hardtop - Mahindra Thar

I am all set to purchase a Hyderabad hard top except for this vital piece of information for clarification.

Will the installation of this Hard top lead to exaust fumes entering the cabin ?
