Senior - BHPian ![]() | ![]() Ah, iam in love with this colour!! Open top Thar looks good!! Does SA version come with a soft top? If yes any pics of that? Also is Thar sold in SA with those AT tyres as standard? Guys we had a OTR in chennai yesterday and i found M-Hawk Scorpio very impressive but for its ADR angles. Power was phenomenal and the way it soaked up the terrain was great! Since Thar has got Scorpio's pedigree one can expect the same. I am a little aprehensive about the suspension mismatch between the front and the rear but for that it holds good promise. In palar yesterday there was never a moment where scorpio lifted its wheel. Awesome articulation and front IFS had enough travel. The pitch and bounce was very well contained and the traction levels were supreme. No axle hop at all. Iam yet to see this in Thar. p.s Look at the custom front bumper and absence of front wheel arch add on. Last edited by vinod_nookala : 19th April 2010 at 16:12. |

| ![]() Dear Team-bhp, I want to know your views on “full disclosure policy”. I believe we have certain team-bhp-members, who belong to certain automobile corporations, posting their views. I will not question their integrity but just want to know where they come from. Cheers, bliss_now. ps. Upton Sinclair once quoted, "It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends upon his not understanding it!". pps. Some people have this weird hobby to connect dots. Weird isn’t it. |

Distinguished - BHPian ![]() ![]() | ![]() Spikeji, Yes, that was my scorpio. There aren't that many idiots who will take a new Scorpio 4x4 for an event organized by Arka :-). But I had told him to spare my vehicle and do only the moderate stuff. One obstacle I avoided since a LWB wouldn't do with with 180mm GC and poor ADR. I got stuck in one rut where there was a two feet drop and the Scorpio rested on it's running boards like a tired horse with one knee bent. It was towed out by it's great grandfather the CJ3B. We then packed the drop with some stones so that the rear tire wouldn't drop the two feet, else my rear bumper would have been history. The rear bumper of the Scorpio sticks out like 3 feet from the door. ![]() |

I am not sure about those tyres being optional? (Those are 31" Hankook Dynapro M/T) BTW, here is one comment regarding use of 31" on Thar: Quote:

| ![]() offroad maniac- beyond a certain limit the torsion bar will give away, after all it acts like a cantilever beam with point loads at one end. The other Red color is Solid and is not available as of now. Spike |

| ![]() Has God listened? Came across a discussion on the 4X4 forum in SA that one of the display models of the Thar has leaf springs and solid axles at the front and rear. The front axle sticking out seems to be evident that the variant has solid axles. Is this true or are these speculations. |

| ![]() Dear Offroad Maniac - this was the EXACT issue which resulted in the IFS coming into this vehicle. I have clarified in the past also. It has nothing to do with BS4 / Euro4. Best regards, Behram Dhabhar |

I think we all missed you clarification about why the THAR was made IFS. Had the Kandivili R&D Team (Home of the NGCS MM550XD) been given, the Thar project they would have easily fitted the NEF 2.49 CRDi with Solid Axle Leaf Spring and FFRA. Please give the explanations. Regards, Arka | |
