That's great news. Just hope they also offer a smaller 2 door version.

Time to bug GTO! What say?

Meanwhile i was getting impatient with all this wait, so have sent DwArF in for some sprucing up. Thar/Gypsy can wait for official test review BUT DwArF cant wait!

Only test drive i will take is if M&M responds to my online request i guess. But i would really like to look forward to a Ver 2 Thar TD, if it comes out sometime.

Wish list:

AC
Harder Top / Lockable
More beef on front suspension and drive
Same price tag

Well that is enough for me.

Well the relevance of overdrive is that i can take DwArF on longer drives and make this thread not relevant I will research on your advice and will keep you updated.
This post is not really for solving the puzzle Thar Vs Gypsy, but to see if this point makes logical for many who have got their SWB Jeeps with Peugeot motor in it.

How to survive with this combination or what are the suggested modifications to reach up to some expected performance on / off road scenario is being discussed in the following thread, may those who are looking for such options and dilemma of going for newer vehicles in the place of their existing SWB diesel powered super offroaders.

First my favorite "from the heart" perspective Thar Crde

Costing

BLR Otr: 7,27,000/-
AC: 30,000/-
Tyre (no alloys): 40,000/-
Roll cage: 10,000/-
MLD: 35,000/-

Total: INR 8,42,000/-

Does the Thar have an option of an MLD ? If not, then won't these modifications void warranty ?

Not from factory, but M&M has indicated that they might be able to provide an approved part which can be fitted at dealership, without warranty void issue.

Fact: the moment vehicle goes into an OTR track chances of warranty cover getting void is an unpleasant reality. Be it M&M or MUL.

What for? You just need a compressor right? Isn't the blower factory fitted? Even if it isn't - shouldn't cost more than 15k for the LOT!

Another ploy to make sure the customer is at the mercy of the dealership. Maruti follows a similar policy with the Gypsy. I paid 45000 for my Gypsy AC installation but it included everything and then some. Thermal insulation, piping, 6V10 compressor, Superking blower, custom ducting etc. At least I am happy with my install.

What is the breakup for the 48k?

Lol 48K?! I would rather do it outside since i don't want a scorpio size AC in a soft top Thar

Anyways does that mean that AC can be fitted right now at the dealership, if so it is a small relief at a very high price, atleast.

Then no warranty for you, so says soup nazi.

Ironically, this will apply to any mods you may do on it. Only the work done in Mahindra Customization department will retain warranty.

PS: if you don't get soup nazi comment, google it or check this video:

No idea about the break up. This was quoted to us when we checked out the stock thar at the bombay showroom. They didn't have any accessory list either and were quite clueless. More details about that visit and more in a few days though...

Jaggu - in that case the warranty would be bust even before you cross Anil Kumble Circle on the way to the avalakonda OTR track

Sharat beat me to it, gotta see the soup vid @ home..!

re: Unreasonable dilemma! Thar Vs Gypsy! Mostly resolved Page 9.

Santhosh i really am not bothered with warranty cover from either of these manufacturer's. What i plan to do with the vehicle will surely void warranty, and only hope is some goodwill warranty at the workshop level. So i would give same marks in this department for both.

On the other hand, with Gypsy access to known mod's is much better ie if i can afford all that

@Samurai: Nice video

I agree ^ , oh and in case you settle for a thar and end up doing something to void the warranty, me and my hosur mech is just a call away Rural areas are aplenty with scorps/boleros and no one cares a damn about Ma$$ or the effect on warranty after the 1st 3 free services... Except for the TC/front prop shaft and few thar-unique items, rest all parts are available cheaper at JC road than India.G and even cheaper to fix (labor) at a local mech.
