But, stock headunit with JBL speakers will definitely be an improvement in sound quality over stock speakers. You can decide whether to add a digital signal processor to the stock HU or change the headunit later.
Hi Sankar, I may be getting a Fortuner instead of the Crysta. Do the Metra items you recommended I buy hold good for the Fortuner as well?

Re: ICE upgrade for the Toyota Innova Crysta

Guys need some feedback on the following components for Innova Crysta (Z) audio upgrade.

Phase-1
Head Unit: DMH-ZS9350BT -> Flush fitment for Innova Crysta. It costs a whopping 80k and thats the only con. I had considered XAV-8000 but given the fact that it bulges out of the dash is a big let down.

Front Components -> Infinity Kappa (100 RMS) - Polk was the second-best
Rear Coaxials -> Infinity Kappa or Morel?
Amplifier -> 4 channel Blaupunkt AMP1604
Wiring -> Blaupunkt

Phase-2
Damping -> Dr. Artex (doors, roof, floors and boot)
Underseat Woofer -> ?

Please have a look at Pioneer DMH-ZS8290BT. Costs around ~₹49,000. Retail price post discount should be lesser and is made specific for Hyundai Creta & Toyota Innova Crysta with all fascia + wiring as plug-n-play. Quoting from Pioneer website:

Installation kits for select Hyundai & Toyota Cars:

For easy plug & play installation, installation kits for various cars are provided with the headunit.
  • Hyundai creta kit includes Car frame in Glossy finish (already fixed with the unit), Power connector & other accessories.
  • Toyota Innova Crysta kit includes perfect fit escutcheon frame, Power connector & other accessories

Regarding phase-2, I'll suggest you to get the damping done along with the wiring.

Budget for the underseat subwoofer? Pioneer, JBL Blaupunkt have options.

Thanks, Anurag for your speedy response. I basically do not want any false plastics on the side of the head unit, I want something that will be like an edge to edge fitment and will not require any frame, like what we have in the stock fitment. I see that 8290BT has an 8" capacitive touch screen display. Would it still require an extra plastic frame?

I was also leaning on Sony's XAV-8000 (yes, ignoring resistive touch screen as a sore point) but it protrudes half an inch from the dash and that is the dealbreaker for me but in the back of my mind, I was thinking is it worth spending so much on a Pioneer's head unit and hence the predicament. I am not at all interested in Android HUs.

Thanks!

Check this video where they have fit the 8290BT in the Crysta: Pioneer DMH-ZS8290BT

Looks pretty OEM to me. I think you can go ahead with this particular HU.

Thanks, Anurag this is exactly what I want. I can see that they have used the glossy finish frame and hence the complete setup looks OEM. Perfect!

Since you've mentioned that I should pull damping to Phase-1 which makes sense because I am anyway going to open the car's door panels for component fitment. So, would damping of doors be sufficient or do I need to include roof and floor as well for considerable reduction in ambient noise/stop rattling of doors? Thanks!

Since the panels will be opened during the wiring step, damping the panels at the same time will reduce the risk of rattles later on and also will be easy for the staff to do it in one go.

4 doors + boot lid + spare wheel area and all plastic panels including door pads are a must to be damped. Worst case scenario, get the floor also damped if you feel that road noise is filtering in too much. Avoid the roof if possible unless the staff who is doing the job know what they are up to and won't cause any issues later on to the roof-mounted A/C, roof liner, curtain airbags etc.

Re: ICE upgrade for the Toyota Innova Crysta

First of all, let me start by saying how amazing a4anurag (Anurag) has been this past week for helping me finalize the ICE upgrade for my Innova Crysta. His never-ending knowledge of ICE products is just jaw-droppingly amazing. Thank you dear brother!

So as per Phase-1, the following equipment will be upgraded

1. Headunit: Pioneer's top of the line 9350ZS-BT will be replacing the stock head unit. This comes with a 9' capacitive touch screen, wireless apple car play and android auto, and built-in Alexa and HDMI port. Please refer to the following link for more details:
https://pioneer-india.in/buy/car-ent.../dmh-zf9350bt/

2. Amplifier: Zapco St4ZSQ - As the name suggests, an SQ level 'audiophile' 4 channel amplifier (100W per channel)

3. Front Components: Audible Physics Avatar 1.6 component speakers. Though I have no experience with the brand but, it comes highly recommended from the gurus, so it was good enough for me.

4. Damping: Dampmat Exceed and Plus - For front doors and trunk

I had an initial budget of 1L for complete ICE upgrade but all thanks for Anurag, I had to shuffle activities between two phases
Phase - 2:

1. Coaxial speakers for the rear door
2. New amplifier for the rear coaxial speakers
3. An under-seat Sub-woofer
4. A Monoblock Amplifier for the Sub-woofer
5. Damping of rear doors

The stuff is ordered today and will be delivered in week's time. I will post pics once I get them. Thanks Anurag for making this possible.

Re: ICE upgrade for the Toyota Innova Crysta

I took delivery of 2.4Z AT crysta last week and replaced the horrible stock headunit with pioneer DMH-ZS9350BT
No aftermarket fascia required it was a direct flush fit.
Wireless Android auto and Alexa is quite cool. The dash looks very premium now.

The only downside is the navigation and music tab in the cluster is blank, dont know if theres a way to get that working.

Mrp is 79,990 ,bought it from a pioneer authorised dealer for Rs 59,000.

Nice HU I have the same one planned. Happy to hear the positive feedback on the HU from a fellow BHPian who has the same car (right down to the variant) as mine.

Did you manage your MID settings back? furthermore, can you please shed some insights on the damping and installation procedure. Thanks!

Does the Wireless Android Auto work seamlessly?

Can you still use the phone for 'other' things? Use case: switching on navigation for the driver, music for everyone but continuing mail/ whatsapp

Did not understand the bit about the "tabs in the cluster" being blank. Are you talking about the instrument cluster behind the wheel?

Finally, does the unit switch off if you start the car? They said you can install an inline capacitor to overcome it. Have you done it?

Re: ICE upgrade for the Toyota Innova Crysta

Any information, Is it possible to fit infotainment from new Crysta on the previous generation Crysta which I bought on October 2019.

Just pinged my SA on this, didn't get any response so far. My gut feel is Toyota may charge a bomb for it if possible.

Re: ICE upgrade for the Toyota Innova Crysta

I have been waiting for the updated infotainment to retrofit into my fortuner for a while now. Had enquired with my local dealer in Bangalore and guess what's the estimate from the accessories team? 1,75,000. I am not sure if its a typo or just a bad year end joke!

I am waiting for other members to check and update on this thread.

Looks neat. How do the steering audio controls work now?

I am mostly going ahead with this headunit too. Have you figured out a way to get the music and the navigation tabs to work on the instrument cluster? Also, have you paired this with the stock speakers? If so, they surely must sound better driven through these yeah?
