Almost there but decided not to.

After a lot of deliberation and with the work almost started have decided not to do up the ICE on the Linea. I just decided I did not want to touch the Linea and leave it stock. The only change that is planned is replacing the OE front speakers with the electra 5.1 coaxials that were meant for the rear in the original plan
However I do have a few pics of the front speakers and the fuse box for those who are interested.

However not to fret. All the equipment sans the cleansweep is going to be used in a different car and will be the start of a new ICEing thread coming soon!

The hunt is on for a new HU.

Thank You

I forgot to add something to the above post and its the most important part - the THANK YOU.
I would really like to thank the following for sharing their time, patience and knowledge. They have all contributed immensely to my I Q (ICE quotient). In no particular order:
  • DerAlte
  • Navin
  • Frank Mehta
  • Bass and trouble
  • Akbaree
  • Ghost rider
  • Nitrous
  • Sam Kapasi
  • Xplora
  • Rajgopal
  • Guns666
  • wannabe loser
  • ultimate champ
  • anyone else I might have missed out
However this may not be the end of the Linea Ice chronicles. There maybe another installment rin the near future. However till then look up the ICE section for a new thread for my ICE project on my daily ride.

Hey vahan the place where I go to work does not deserve the Linea . its one dense traffic jungle, enroute to the city bus stand and finding parking is an issue. SO am a bit worried of rash bus drivers and bikers.

The wagon on the other hand has had her fair share of scratches and is unattractive to idlers.

The Linea gets taken out on the weekend and whenever I have an urge for a long drive. She deserves to be driven peacefully. BTW she has about 2k on the odo now . Not to worry I am going to keep the linea for a good 6-7 years so theres lots of time to make up the miles.

Hi Pranava,

Curious to know how your new setup sounds compared to stock.

I am looking to extract some more bass from the stock HU of my Linea. Would be great if you could help me with the following,

- Will there be an improvement in bass if I upgrade to better speakers?
- Will the stock Hu be able to drive the speakers?
- Will upgrading to better speakers void warranty?
- Were any modifications done to fit the speakers on the front doors?
- Anything else to be considered for doing a speaker upgrade?
- What is the door damping material you are using and how much does it cost?
: Mine is a MJD Linea. Are you aware of any means by which to reduce the engine noise entering the cabin?

Cheers,
UKR

Hahaha! Finally you ended up just changing the fronts!!

Well maybe it was a good choice not to meddle with the electricals.

I was at Concorde last weekend to get some niggles fixed, brake fluid top up etc etc. Noticed a champagne colored line active all locked up on the side. Enquired about it and well what do you know, our man tried fitting an autocop central locking and the ECU recognized a change in the elecs and whole car just bricked itself. Its one huge paperweight and they are yet to hear from Fiat on how to fix this situation

But then again he was messing with the keys/locking tech and the immobilizer responds to the keys. Might not have anything to do with messing with the electricals, but still {shudder}.

Well is there any improvement in the sound??

B Rgds,
Raj.

I did not upgrade much, dropped the plans and will go in only for the front coaxials.

- Will there be an improvement in bass if I upgrade to better speakers?

Well I think there will be a marginal improvement across frequencies. Also there are EQ presets as well as manual bass and treble settings that you can tinker with to ensure its as per your tastes

- Will the stock Hu be able to drive the speakers?

If you mean component speakers,
they will work but then to bring the best out of them, one will need an amp to adequately power them

- Will upgrading to better speakers void warranty?

Should not void warranty
but ensure wires are not cut/spliced.

- Were any modifications done to fit the speakers on the front doors?

Not much. A competent installer should find it easy to do it

- Anything else to be considered for doing a speaker upgrade?

Nothing much, just ensure they fit in the stock location. I think the stock can take 5.25" easily

- What is the door damping material you are using and how much does it cost?

Don't think damping is needed if fitted well

: Mine is a MJD Linea. Are you aware of any means by which to reduce the engine noise entering the cabin?

Sound deadening the engine bay, cabin interiors (firewall) is an option

Cheers,

Mine is an E+. My SA had warned me not to do anything with the electricals including speaker upgrade

Could you please suggest the best speakers that can be installed without any modifications?

My other car is a Ford Escort. Its rear speakers are fitted on the rear parcel tray. Even though not that great, it seems to give a far better bass response. May be because of the boot acting as an enclosure.

I don't think upgrading the speakers should be a worry. Would recommend sticking to coaxials from JBL/Infinity, Illusion, etc. 6 Inch coaxials should fit in the front and 5.25 for the rear. Don't change the OE wiring for now, just add the speakers using the same wiring.

Your bass response would definitely be better with 6x9 ovals , however that would require installing them on he rear parcel tray which would entail cutting through the tray and could get ugly. Would not recommend it.

There is however one option that seems possible and that is installing a plug and play Blaupunkt amp that is in a way designed for their OE HUs. and then connecting better speakers. However do discuss this option with your service advisor (if he is the knowledgeable sorts) and some competent person from Blaupunkt.

Pranava, sorry for the delayed response. Thanks for the info. The plug and play amp option surely looks intriguing. Could you please let me know more about it like the cost involved, avalability etc?

From what ever interactions I've had with the SA, he is hardly knowledgeable on anything other than the usual service-repair stuff . I contacted the helpline number on their website, but no help from them either.

There is a Blaupunkt brandshop in Blore,
Mandovi Motors Pvt. Ltd.
No. 70, Sarakki Industri al Estate,
J P Nagar 3rd Stage, Bannergatta Main Road,
Bangalore - 560078
Ph: 080 26583212, 9945236129, 9945236128

Give them a visit. I'm sure they may have an answer. There are PnP amplifiers, 2,4,5 channels as well as a mono, the THA series. You will also need the PnP adaptor.

Blaupunkt - Amplifiers - THA-Series

Sorry have no idea on the pricing front. Could you please put up the prices here after you enquire from them?

Blaupunkt Car Configurator this is the car config link from Blaus site for the Linea. May help you out.
