They are powered by H series engines. BTW 31 Tonners are a fast developing multi axle segment for bulk material transportation.

Just saw a volvo vision 2020 concept trailer link. I think it is awesomely made, also since we do have finger print scanner to unlock laptops , i think a key unlocking a truck for a particular set of drivers seems realistic and can be added to the database of trucks memory by the truck owning company.

Here is the link:

Ashokleyland - 2518

An AL - 2518. Look at the boby built over the FES. Even the original paint shade is retained and cab is built even with out disturbing that.

In the six pic , the Yellow Volvo truck shows sporting a box type cabin behind the drivers cabin and a soft top tent.

What is housed in this cabin and what is the functionality .

I have seen all heavy hauling trucks having a similar contraption behind.

Can someone shed some light.

I think it is a factory built chassis. I have seen some BEST buses which are this long.

It's used to carry cars/bikes. I think the chassis has been extended by the operator to carry as many vehicles as possible without exceeding the loading capacity of the truck. Vehicles take up more space but weigh less compared to other cargo.

I doubt if BEST uses buses this long. First, it's got 3 axles while city buses (except the vestibule buses from AL) have got just two. And second, buses (except the Volvo B9R aka 9400XL) are built on chassis that are not more than 12m long, while this chassis is more than that.

I'm open for corrections regarding the figures

It's called a ballast. It's actually a weight used to provide more road grip to the driving wheels (similar to the way spoilers direct air flow in such a way to provide more downforce to the drive wheels of sports cars). Without this weight, the rear wheels can lose traction while hauling heavy loads like this on an incline.

The tent might have been put up on top of the ballast by the crew, for sleeping.

Similar structures also come with some tractors also, having few accessories in the front, to counter balance the weight. These tractors came with a tank like structure at the rear, which is filled with water, when required.

This is a factory built chassis only. Its not an extended chassis.

The SLF might be equal in length to this as their over all length is 12M.

This is another application specific variant in multi axle haulage segment.
Here this is not only used to carry voluminous goods but also bulkier one.
This is usually used for heavy haulage unlike a lighter goods like car and two wheeler carrier.VRL has a good number of this vehicle which you can easily spot.

Yeah, I spotted one recently, after posting it. And I saw one of their yellow ecomets too.

I saw a MAN concrete truck (don't know the exact name for these things) on the OMR a few days back. First time seeing a MAN used for this.
