I vaguely remember a Army tank carrier by Tata, I cant remember if it was 8x8 or what but sounded very heavy and that was more then 10 years ago. I have never seen any of these trucks every again.

Can any one shed some info or seen any of it?

While traveling through Calicut, i saw this incredible truck which is an Ashok Leyland Hippo and am sure this is a vintage piece which is atleast some 40-50 years old. Dont really know when this one was produced but its owned by KSEB. this one was carrying a transformer.
Note the old AL logo which looks like a bird with 2 boxer dogs looking from the opposite direction.
A pristine vehicle still going strong. Hats off to KSEB for maintaining it in all its true form.
That's quite a sighting. Kudos to KSEB for maintaining that Hippo in such pristine condition. And thanks to urzdeepu for posting it in T-BHP

It's even more wonderful to know that it's not just a show piece but is a full-blown hauler.

thank you all for your response...can give u one more information regarding that hippo..

on inquiry i came to know that this one is maintained at thrissur( viyyur power house) but it was surprising to see it a long way out of thrissur with a heavy load and it was heading back to its home shed.
the speed maintained was around 30 kmph and it also had a pilot jeep.

WOW, Saw this coming down the ghats(Shiradi) heading towards Mangalore on 25th must say many people trying to manage the traffic where running along the trucks and since its a 2lane they got 1 truck pass while another was waiting...for sure this was a HUGE cargo...

and the truck was driven at snail pace...

btw what is it?? any idea

@Ashley2, @SirAlec & others :

ALL has a multi axle truck (I think 4 axles), of which TWO axles are up front. Do you know which model is this ?

This is a current model. Saw a couple of these about two months ago, but both times took me by surprise & I could not get any pics.
