Besides TCL is a 50-50 JV and Tata is not under Cummins' mercy.
Apart from that TATA is the only major customer of cummins engines in India, so Cummins also cannot do much even if it wanted to.

Well, for heavy duty engines Tatas are at the mercy of Cummins India, period. Tata-Cummins JV is currently not producing engines that would qualify as heavy duty.

Daewoo Novus used to be powered by powerful V-8 diesels. May be the cost factor is detering the Tatas in bringing them to India.

After bankruptcy Daewoo Car Plant was bought by GM, Truck plant was bought by Tata, Bus plant was bought by Ssang Yong Motors and Daewoo Engine plant was bought by Doosan (A Korean Company). Daewoo trucks in Korea are available with both Cummins and Doosan engine as options

There are two things to be noted here:
1.Tata Cummins as a JV they manufacture engines only to meet TML's requirements.
2.Cummins have its own seperate engine plant which manufactures engines for Tata which are not the part of JV. Apart from this they do engines for Eicher,AMW,AL(Very much limited though) and for their power solutions business with Powerica under the brand Cummins Powerica.

If you look closely at the backhoe that has been obscured by the near side wall, there is an incline just in front of this backhoe. They use the incline to come out and go in.

Yes, coming out of this is pretty easy for the machines of these kind. I have a decent experience in operating these kind of machines.

Thanks MileCruncher, Ashley2. Looks like Tata-Cummins is in the process of setting up another plant near Pune. Also somewhere i read, Tata Motors is the 3rd biggest consumer of Cummins engines worldwide, MB being the Biggest.

these are only ladders i presume, not the tankers. nice to see volvos serving as fire trucks in india. those ALs take days to reach the spot & before it reaches everything is over.

The plant is in pune, the earlier joint venture was with Kirloskars apart from the Kirloskars own small engine manufacturing plant. Now Cummins is on it's own and has a very strong pressence in Industrial engine (for industrial vehicles, shunting locos, pumps, compressors etc.) apart from good presence in lower rating of the Generator market. ANd apart from Powerica they have Sudhir who pakage the Gensets and sell them.

Guys one interesting to share from my side for today.
Today after noon I was busy running in company and I got a call from Chennai.
The guy introduced himself saying that he is so and so and he is from Tata Motors.
I was puzzled hearing why should I get a call from Tata motors?
Then he added that " This is further to your enquiry on Prima range of trucks and we would like to detail you regarding the product.
Then I remembered sending a message "Prima" to some number as given in their add.
He asked about whats my business and started detailing about the product.
I told him that we are looking for the fleet expansion of my friend and he is operating trucks from Tuticorin to other states.
Right now only 40.28 is being offered to customers and no bookings are received from Tamilnadu yet.
They have given for trial for few customers in Gujarat it seems.
Tractors are sold along with Trailors only and it costs around 31 lks.
Right now only BSIII version is available.
He did not have answer for what technology was used for achieving BSIII norms - SCR, EGR?
From his words I could understand Tata Motors is betting big on Prima and their strategy would be incresing the operational profit for customers by faster turn around time, reduced driver fatigue, Incresed productivity and incresed On road presence.
These are justified by saying they offer cabs with superior comfort features like AC, tiltable power steering etc.
he also told in a single day the truck can cover excess of 700 kms!.
I am not sure of this as how many drivers prefer driving such a long distance just by proving AC and other features?
will this strategy work for TML?
Opinions and Views plz

@AshLey2

You would be probably in a better position to judge but I would say that the conveniences should result in at least a 30-35% increase in distance traveled. One needs to keep in mind the fact that these trucks are also more powerful and with the National Highway network improving, the 700km range might just be true.
