re: Tata Motors announces Tiago EV. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 8.49 lakh; offers 315 km range

Going by the teasers, the Tiago EV will be a premium little hatchback. It can take Tiago's monthly sales into five digits, just like how the Nexon EV did it for the Nexon.

Good going by the Tatas. They will capture the EV market even further before the XUV400 dispatches begin. With the Harrier and the Punch EV in the pipeline, Tata is expected to rule the EV market at least for the next 5 years.

Since the Tiago and Punch EVs are comparable in terms of the size, what would be reason to choose one over the other ?

Tiago and Tigor share the same platform, so Tiago before Punch is expected.

The Punch is on the Alpha arc, which is not yet electrified so may come in the coming years. They had to go back to design the Altroz after the success of NEV as people expected a better range, which cannot be fitted due to GC. Being a premium hatch, it must at least give an identical range to NEV.

Tiago on other hand is a low-budget car, so a range of 200-250 must be okay. Smart choice by Tata Motors.

re: Tata Motors announces Tiago EV. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 8.49 lakh; offers 315 km range

If TML can launch a lower variant of the Tiago EV with less features at a psychologically important price point of Rs 9.5 lakhs ex-showroom or something lesser; then the competition seriously needs to get their act together.

MG's baby two door EV based on the Wuling model, which will be launched next year will have good competition. MG will find it difficult to price their smaller model below Rs 10lakhs ex-showroom due to the investments they'll have to make for it. And from a consumer point of view it will be a "smaller" car with two lesser doors.

The Tiago is a proven product, notwithstanding its unrefined powertrians and lack of NVH for the ICE models. It is dynamically well sorted, has a good ride and handling balance and the bodyshell has proven safety credentials.

Just goes to show what forward thinking engineering can achieve in creating a robust platform design.
Yes, I am talking about the Tata X-0, the original Indica platfom, on which the ICE Tiago's are based and now the EV Tiago. The original X-0 platform was designed to meet European crash norms, as it was meant to be exported to UK and EU way back in the early 2000's.

The Indica is dead. Long live the Tiago (Indica) EV!

I think MG's product will be dead on arrival after the launch of Tiago EV. IF I were in the market for a runabout, it would be a no brainer choice instead of the weird looking MG. The top model I guess will be priced at par or even above the Tigor EV going by the leatherette seats and all.

The reason I asked the question regarding Punch was that there's another "khabar" that Punch EV may be released early next year. So then what would be the reason to choose one over the other. To me Tiago looks a bit dull when compared to Punch. See thread #1 at this link.

Just thinking as a potential buyer of a city car with low usage.

Current Tigor EV has on road price of Rs.12lacs+. Tiago EV with even more features will be at least 11-12lacs. So unless I have a really high city usage, would spending so much on a small EV make sense?

Not to me. In my opinion for lower city usage petrol Tiago still is a better choice & I can still go on occasional long highway trips without any worry.

On the other hand if it comes in base or mid variant with a price tag of under Rs.9 lakhs I will be more than happy to invest in it.

Having Badly Burnt its Hands despite having the most noble of intentions... AKA Tata NANO: The "Cheapest Car", Tata would ideally position its new products as Anything But "Cheap/Economical/VFM".

FYI The latest Tag line of Tata is "Connecting Aspirations"

re: Tata Motors announces Tiago EV. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 8.49 lakh; offers 315 km range

I agree with Strider24. I am in the market for a well built hatchback, also looking at preowned options as well with a budget of 4-5L, petrol or diesel. My heart is set on the Brio or the 2nd gen Swift. My next car might be the Tiago EV if they price it sensibly, my expectation is the top end model at 9L on road max. It will be used primarily as my beater city car with occasional highway trips.

EV owners - how do you feel is the charging infrastructure on the ground in India? Have you been able to do 400+ km drives on your vehicle with sufficient charging stations available? This is the only thing holding me back to jump to EV as I will be on trips to the hill stations with 3-4 friends once a month atleast 600 km round trip.

Okay so just revisited Tiago petrol BS6 AMT prices for today. It starts at 6.70 lakhs for XTA and tops at 7.47 lakhs for the XZA+ DT variant. Looks like the EV prices will start at 10.99 lakhs, But Tigor Ziptron prices are quite high, it starts at 12.49 lakhs for XE today.

Did anybody register interest in this EV on their website and has heard back from Tata ? I have registered just to start getting a feel and improve my understanding of EV, (before taking the plunge).

Tiago AMT XZA+ itself costs more than 9L on road in Bangalore. There is no doubt of Tiago EV top end on road crossing 12L in Bangalore. At the very best a low range entry level Tiago EV might be priced 9.99L ex-showroom.

I had been in market to buy a small car, Tiago AMT and Punch AMT being the last contenders. Going to book Punch Kaziranga today. I was also looking forward to Tiago EV but I felt Punch to be a better and spacious car as compared to Tiago. A Punch EV if priced well might have been my choice over Petrol AMT, but I need a car in short time and can't wait further.
