Migerated from a P&S to a DSLR finally. Bought myself a D40 with the 18-55mm kit lens. Getting used to the camera slowly. Took a few snaps. Am fascinated by the sharpness of pictures. Truly amazing.

Pretty close and sharp which lense did you use?

@Riju: Thanks a lot chief, Well i like to do birding, but due to outrageously expensive pricing of prime lenses, I am not able to afford one and looking for a second hand 100-400 Canon from months.

@guyonblackybx: I use a 55-250 IS, Sharpening done in DPP, Great macro shot....I want to pick up that reverse lens mount/adapter for 18-55 any idea if its off the shelf in Blore?

@JK: Thanks, Place is Vedanthangal Bird Santuary, about 70 kms from Chennai on Pondy route. Brilliant roads, really kept well. Nice place for bird lovers (watchers), they open by 8:30 AM and upto 6 in the evening i guess, its open almost all days.

Actually you can make one with a little DIY. Get a lens mount cap, cut the the middle portion. Get a cheap UV filter ring which fits your lens filter thread. Remove the UV glass from the ring. Attach the ring to the already cut lens cap. Now screw in your lens in reverse direction and you got your reversing macro setup. But problem is that you'll loose control on aperature. So for this either you can buy the expensive reversing setup

or,

Get two rings, one which fits your 18-55mm filter thread and other which fits your reversing lens(say a 50mm 1.8). Now fix these two rings together and voila your adapter is ready. Let the adhesive settle down, don;t be in a hurry.
After this attach the adapter to the lens which will be mounted normally. Now the lens connected to the camera in a normal way will provide the aperature control. Screw in the reversing lens on the other side thread of the adapeter. And your macro setup is ready. BTW, I've not tried this method so not sure with which lenses it will work or it will work at all. I think it should work with 50mm reverse mounted. Give it a try and you can magnification more then 1:1. But the drawback is that it'll be very cumbersome to use and can only be used in controlled environment. I hope it'll work. I've read someone doing this long time back so I may have missed a point or two here.
