Did you take them in low light? 'cause it looks like the light wasn't sufficient, so the digicam would've compensated by increasing the ISO rating (film speed equivalent) leading to the grains.

the grain is sensor noise, and is the bane of small sensors.
As you cram more and more megapixels on the small sensor, noise increases.
DSLRS have larger sized sensors so are reasonably clean at around 1600 ISO too for Canon's and around ISO 800 for Oly's
P&S camera's cant do much above ISO 200, except for the Fuji's with their revolutionary super CCD sensor.
In P&S they do extensive noise reduction to get rid of noise, but that hits detail.
As they say, there is no free lunch

TSK, wouldn't area in focus also be a reason here? If you look at the second pic, the stalk in the middle is in focus, while the rest of the pic is not.

Make it 400 for Olympus, although I have heard that latest ones like E-400 have improved.

condor, the grain in digicam pics is noise, nothing to do with focus etc.,
Its just that when the object is in sharp focus and light is good, the grain is not noticeable.
Therefore there is the concept of "shadow noise", i.e. noise is more visible in shadows.
When I shoot scenes with start shadows at ISO 1600, the noise is noticeable, but if scene is lit more uniformly(albeit low light only) it is less noticeable.

Look at this pic. ISO 1600, but noise is very less. Only in the tree shadow its more noticeable

Extremely well taken sinner, the object is really sharp and perfectly off-center, and reasonable bokeh. Post in 800x600 if possible.

Look at this one, tree in focus.
